Sandra Uptagrafft (born April 12, 1971 in Singapore) [1] is an American sport shooter. [2] At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the Women's 10 metre air pistol, and finished in 28th place. [3] She also competed in the Women's 25 metre pistol event and also finished 28th in that. [4] She has won gold and silver medals in the Pan American Games. [5]

She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics. [6]

Personal life

Uptagrafft graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1989 and from Troy State University in 1998. [7] She is married to fellow sports shooter Eric Uptagrafft and is based in Phenix City, Alabama. [5] She is a Warrant Officer in the US Army Reserves. [5]

Boxer Milorad Gajović represented his country in the heavyweight division, while Nikola Šaranović competed in 10 m air pistol and 50 m pistol precision shooting events. In team competition, Montenegro competed in water polo. The Montenegro national water polo team won the 2007 European Water Polo Olympic Qualification Tournament to qualify for the Olympic games.

Nino Salukvadze is a Georgian sport shooter. She is a ten-time Olympian, the record for appearances by a female athlete and tying Canadian showjumper Ian Millar for the most for any athlete. Margarita Tarradell Asencio is a Cuban sport shooter. She has competed for Cuba in pistol shooting at three Olympics, and has produced an illustrious career tally of fifteen medals in a major international competition, a total of four at the Pan American Games, a total of five at the American Championships, and a total of six at numerous meets of the ISSF World Cup series.

The rate of participation of women in the Olympic Games has been increasing since their first participation in 1900. Some sports are uniquely for women, others are contested by both sexes, while some older sports remain for men only. The representation of women on the International Olympic Committee has historically run well behind the rate of female participation, and long missed its target of a 20% minimum presence of women on their committee. Manu Bhaker is an Indian sport shooter and Olympic medalist. She won two bronze medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She secured a bronze in the women's 10 metre air pistol event, becoming the first female shooter from India to win a medal at any Olympics. Subsequently, she earned another bronze medal in the mixed 10 metre air pistol team event, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single Olympics.
