Sangarsh is an annual fund-raising musical concert organised by Rotaract club of CEG, Anna University, Chennai. [1] [2] [3] Sangarsh is focused at aiding the needy sections of the society. Many eminent playback singers have made their presence over the years. Actor Kamal Haasan was the patron for Sangarsh'11. Oscar-winning Music Director A. R. Rahman was the patron of Sangarsh'12. Veteran actor Prakash Raj and actor Srikanth were the patrons for Sangarsh'13.

Background

Sangarsh has been conducted by the Rotaract Club of College of Engineering, Guindy students as an initiative to help the needy parts of society from 2003.

Six motor vehicles were given to disabled staff & students of Anna University. [4]

Through a play by Crazy Mohan a dramatist in Tamil Nadu 50,000 rupees fund raised and which was then donated to Cancer Institute at Adyar. [5]

Sangarsh 2005

An audio visual library for the visually challenged students was set up at Madurai, Tamil Nadu to support the 120 blind students by the fund raised through Sangarsh ’05. [6]

Sangarsh 2008

To cater the needs of CSI Home, a home for rehabilitation of people affected by polio, 3 Lakh rupees was donated by the fund raised through Sangarsh ’08.

Sangarsh 2010

Sangarsh '10 transformed the lives of 45 inmates of Shelter - A home for HIV infected kids by constructing a new home for their living by donating 4.25 Lakh rupees.

Sangarsh ’11 project was aimed at the inmates of Annai Shri Sharada Illam by renovating the infrastructure of home and providing sanitation facilities through a fund of 10 Lakhs. Also, a sum of $1000 was donated towards Rotary International for their Polio eradication program. Singers Andrea Jeremiah, Benny Dayal, Lady Kash and Krissy, Velmurugan, Mukesh participated & sang in the concert. [7] [8]

Sangarsh 2012

Renovating the infrastructure of Government High School, Thirumullaivoyal. Also a medical project was planned that is to support for pediatric heart surgeries of economically downtrodden children through Dr. Mani Children Heart Foundation. The concert was held on 1 April 2012 in Music Academy, Chennai. [9] Singers Priya Himesh, Ranjith, Shwetha Mohan, Tippu Solar Sai participated and sang In Sangarsh'12.

Sangarsh 2013

Brought back the smile of the children in Thalassemia Welfare Association by donating for blood transfusions of the children in that association, Coimbatore. Also Renovated Saron Old Age Home, Namakkal by constructing living rooms and provided proper sanitation facilities for the inmates. The concert was held on 20 April 2013 in Music academy, Chennai. Singers Lady Kash, Ajeesh, Srinivas, Sakthisree Gopalan, Nikhil Matthew, Sharmila sang in the concert. The team under the leadership of Praveen Namakkal Mohankumar were able to successfully complete the project within a year and receive the Best Social Service project from the Rotary International.

Sangarsh 2014

Sangarsh '14 raised funds for the betterment of children of hemophilia society, Madras. The Concert which was held at the Music academy Alwarpet, included the performances of eminent music crew including  Sakthishri gopalan, Tippu, Harihara Sudan, Pop Shalini, M.K Mukesh, A.L Ruflon.

Sangarsh 2015

Sangarsh '15 was organised for the sake of supporting the medication of Lysosomal storage disorder affected children. The Concert consisted of fabulous performances by  Manasi, M.K Balaji, Pop Shalini, and  Velmurugan and was held at the Music academy, Alwarpet.

Sangarsh 2016

Sangarsh'16 again for a good cause, aimed at the betterment of Paediatric acute Leukemia affected children, Ray of light foundation, Nungambakkam. The Music academy was dazzled by the music stars  namely Nivas .K. Prassanna, Manasi, Jithin Raj, and Malavica.

Sangarsh 2017

Sangarsh'17  donated the proceeds towards the medication of Muscular dystrophy, Muscular dystrophy Foundation, Madurai. The day was made memorable by Anuradha Sriram, Syed Subahan, Jithin raj, Pooja vaithyanathan, Pradeep kumar .

Sangarsh 2018

Recurrently this time, Sangarsh gave hands for the development of transport facilities and construction of new homes at Jayaram Karpagavalli Multipurpose Activities and Social Service Foundation, Madurai. The concert which was the source of funds included heart throbbing songsters namely V.V Prassanna, Syed Subahan, Malavica Sundar, Nikhil Mathew

Rahman at a school competition where she was one among the winners. Eventually, she was signed in to record the song "Nila Kaigiradhu" for the film Indira (1995) when she was 15. The song went on to become one of the popular songs of the year and Harini began to get singing offers from other leading film composers.

<i>Star Singer</i> Indian TV series or programme

Star Singer is an Indian music reality television competition, broadcast on Asianet and the show, which selected contestants in the age group of 15–35 years compete based on their skill in singing and entertainment. From season 1 to 7, text messages were sent by the shows' audience to vote for the best-performing participant and a small weightage of this score was considered for a candidate to be shortlisted to next round. In Season 8, voting was conducted on Disney+ Hotstar, Star Network's official OTT platform. From Season 9, judges' decisions were made final and voting was cancelled, but marks can be entered on Disney+ Hotstar and these have small consideration. Super Singer T20 is a 2012-2015 Indian Tamil-language reality television singing competition, which aired on Star Vijay. Former contestants from previous seasons of the Super Singer and Airtel Super Singer Junior shows were divided into 6 teams. 15 league matches were held where each team competed against the other five teams. 4 teams were selected for the knockout semi-finals, before the remaining 2 teams competed against each other in the finals. The show was hosted by Divyadarshini.

Tanishq Swarna Sangeetham is a reality-based Indian singing competition in Tamil language that is being aired on Raj TV. The program seeks to discover the best singing talent in the Carnatic music genre, through a series of statewide auditions in South India. The contest is run for youngsters between the age group 15–23. The show is sponsored by the diamond and gold jewellery store, Tanishq, and the winner of the show is awarded 5 lakh rupees worth of jewellery from Tanishq. The show completed three seasons after its debut in 2012.

Srimathumitha is an Indian playback and Carnatic singer who sings mainly in Tamil. She has also sung in Telugu, Hindi and Kannada songs. Some of her notable songs are "Azhage Azhage" from the movie Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, "Valayapatti Thavile" from the movie Azhagiya Tamil Magan, "Kanaa Kaanum Kalangal" from the movie 7G Rainbow Colony, and "Rathathin Rathame" from the movie Velayudham. She is one of the leading playback singers in today’s film music scenario. She has sung for leading music directors like Ilayaraja, Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, A. R. Rajam Pushpavanam (1918–1991), was the daughter of the music vidwan Madurai Pushpavanam Iyer, who was a notable carnatic musician. Rajam Pushpavanam, a cousin of musician Madurai Mani Iyer, was a singer and music director.

Airtel Super Singer Junior Ithu Thamizhagathin Chellakuralukkana Thedal – is a reality TV show since February 2007 hosted by Vijay TV, a popular Tamil channel of the Star Network, and sponsored by Bharti Airtel. It is a singing talent hunt for the children of age group 6–15. This is the junior version of the Airtel Super Singer show, which premiered on 28 April 2006. Auditions are held in various parts of Tamil Nadu, India. The show attracts many kids from all over the state and rigorous multi-level selection procedures are done in order to select the contestants for the competition. The tenth season is set to launch very soon.

N J Nandini is a Carnatic music vocalist from Trivandrum. Nandini was awarded the Chembai Puraskaram, the Isai Chudar title and a M S Subbalakshmi fellowship at the young age of 23. Nandini, who comes from a family that has a musical lineage, has been nurtured by gurus such as Prof Parassala Ponnammal, Prof P R Kumarakerala Varma, Dr S Bhagyalakshmi and Dr M N Moorthy.

<i>Kallattam</i> 2016 film by G. Ramesh

Kallattam is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by G. Ramesh. The film features Nandha, Richard Rishi, and Ilavarasu in the lead roles, while Sharika, Arthi, and Baby Rethva Isvar play pivotal supporting roles. Featuring music composed by Umar Ezhilan, production for the film began in mid-2016. The narrative revolves around a police officer who sets out to help an unemployed man whose money needed for his daughter's operation gets stolen.
