Santosh Kumar Nirala is an Indian politician from Buxar district of Bihar, India. [1] He is serving as Minister of Transport, Bihar since 29 July 2017 and is a former member of Bihar Legislative Assembly representing the Rajpur constituency from 2010 to 2020. [2] [3]

Political career

Singh made entry into politics in 1992. In 2010 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, he won from Rajpur (Bihar Vidhan Sabha constituency). Again in 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, he won from the same constituency. He also held the position as Minister of SC & ST Welfare Department, Bihar from 2014 to 2017. [4] Currently, he is Minister of Transport Department, Bihar. [5]

His father also served as a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly & former Minister of Bihar, Ram Nagina Singh thrice from this constituency & his mother also served as a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly, Rajmati Devi twice from this constituency. He left JDU to join BJP in 2015. Now he was an Independent.

An erstwhile member of Janata Dal (United); he won the 2015 Legislative Assembly election to the Tekari constituency by defeating Anil Kumar of Hindustani Awam Morcha, a political party led by former Bihar Chief Minister, Jitan Ram Manjhi. He defeated Anil Kumar by a huge margin of votes. While Abhay secured 86,975 votes, Anil managed to get 55,162 votes only. In 2024 Indian general election, he won the Aurangabad, Bihar Lok Sabha constituency by defeating BJP's four term member of parliament, Sushil Kumar Singh. He contested on the symbol of Rashtriya Janata Dal in this election.

Being a most prominent Dalit figure in ruling alliance of Bihar, it is being heard that Vishwanath Ram can soon became minister in Bihar Government.
