Sardath is a science fiction character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by editor Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, he first appeared in Showcase #17 (November 1958).
Sardath was created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, first appearing in Showcase #17. However, in The New 52 continuity, Sardath first appeared in Justice League United #2 by Jeff Lemire and Mike McKone.
Sardath is a scientist originating from Rann, a planet in the Alpha Centauri system whose residents are indistinguishable from humans. Sardath is known for many of his world's greatest inventions, particularly the Zeta Beam. The Zeta Beam was originally created as a communication device so he could contact other worlds; due to the amount of energy used, it became a teleportation device. The first planet the Zeta Beam reached was Earth, where it struck Adam Strange and transported him to Rann. Sardath is shocked by this, but theorizes that the radiation of the beam will eventually wear off, returning Strange to Earth. [1] [2]
Strange remains with Sardath and his daughter Alanna to protect the planet from extraterrestrial threats using Rann's technology. Eventually, the effects of the beam wear off, returning Strange to Earth. Sardath continues to operate the Zeta Beam and gives Strange a schedule of beam firings, allowing him to return to Rann. [3]
Sardath appears in Green Lantern: Beware My Power , voiced by Simon Templeman. [6] [4]
In comics, both Sardath and Alanna are citizens of the planet Rann, a world in the Alpha Centauri star system. One of Rann's greatest scientists, Sardath is the creator of the Zeta-Beam. The device was initially created to communicate with other worlds but ended up a teleportation device instead. That device is what brought Adam Strange to Rann from Earth which is how he met Sardath and his daughter, Alanna.
Strange premiered in 1958 as an archaeologist who was accidentally transported to the planet Rann, in orbit around Alpha Centauri, by something called a zeta beam. He returned to Earth when the beam wore off but began catching zeta beams to Rann in every issue of "Mystery in Space," where he would defeat bizarre sci-fi menaces with his Earthly grit and cleverness before being yanked back to Earth. He met and fell in love with a gorgeous alien woman, Alanna, daughter of Rann's chief scientist, Sardath.
[Adam Strange] was hit by a mysterious beam of light while on a dig in Peru, and zapped to a faraway planet where he was immediately attacked by the fauna. After solving that problem, he met Sardath, lead scientist of Rann, the planet Strange found himself on. From there, he fell in love with Sardath's daughter, Alanna, and adventured around the planet with his girlfriend, his jetpack, and his ray gun. But when the effects of the zeta beam that brought him to Rann wore off, he was transported back to Earth and had to chase beam firings around his home planet to make his way back to his new family.
Having just Zeta-beamed to Rann, the trio of teens are introduced to Alanna and her father Sardath by Earth scientist Adam Strange, who's come to Rann a few times before, but hasn't learned the language yet. Miss Martian helps with that by psychically translating everyone's speech.
