Newcomer has sponsored legislation to streamline consolidation between municipalities by allowing for dual tax rates;this was intended to make consolidation between the Village of Pewaukee and the City of Pewaukee. [6] [7]
In April,2007,Newcomer sponsored legislation to allow up to six ounces of beer to be given as free samples by stores. The bill was signed into law in May,2007. [7] [8]
In March,2008,Newcomer sponsored legislation to enact professional employer organizations (PEOs) in Wisconsin,which allow small businesses to outsource the provision and management of benefits to external groups. [9] [10]
Autism Mandate. Newcomer and the Assembly Republicans said the state should dedicate roughly $6 million more to the Medicaid autism program to eliminate the waiting list. "The most important aspect of my bill was to take care of all those kids on the waiting list. That's what we had to do now because nobody had the perfect solution for the long term," Newcomer said. Newcomer along with fellow Republican Kevin Petersen of Waupaca voted against the children's autism health insurance mandate that was proposed by an executive order by Governor James E. Doyle. Newcomer and Petersen who both have children with autism were the two building blocks in getting the bill defeated in the Republican controlled assembly claiming that less children with autism would receive coverage even if the mandate passed. Controversy
When Newcomer first ran for office,he listed his address at a Delafield home he was building but did not yet occupy;he lived instead in Elm Grove,Wisconsin. A special prosecutor cleared Newcomer of wrongdoing,and Newcomer pointed out he acted on the advice of the State Elections Board. [12] [13] Donna Frake [14]
In August 2009,Newcomer filed for divorce from his wife. [15] [16] [17] In September 2011,Newcomer was re-married to business partner Amy Shirley,a small business owner and domestic violence advocate (www.dawnwi.org). Newcomer and his wife reside in Newcomer's former district with their four daughters. [18]
In January 2010 the Genesse Center strip mall owned by Newcomer,home to the Lake Country Pool &Spa,sustained $1 million in property damage due to an electrical fire. [15] [19]
Waukesha County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 406,978, making it the third-most populous county in Wisconsin. Its median income of $88,985 placed it as the only county in Wisconsin on the list of the 100 highest-income counties in the U.S. by median income as of 2020. Its county seat and largest city is Waukesha.
The Milwaukee metropolitan area is a major metropolitan area located in Southeastern Wisconsin, consisting of the city of Milwaukee and some of the surrounding area. There are several definitions of the area, including the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area and the Milwaukee–Racine–Waukesha combined statistical area. It is the largest metropolitan area in Wisconsin, and the 39th largest metropolitan area in the United States.
Margaret Ann Farrow was an American Republican politician from Wisconsin. She was the 42nd lieutenant governor of Wisconsin and the first woman to hold that office. She previously served twelve years in the Wisconsin Senate and two years in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Later in life, she also served as a member of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.
Scott Lawrence Fitzgerald is an American politician and former newspaper publisher. A Republican, he represents Wisconsin's 5th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district includes many of Milwaukee's northern and western suburbs, such as Waukesha, West Bend, Brookfield, and Mequon. He represented the 13th district in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1995 to 2021.
Scott Richard Jensen is an American public relations professional and Republican politician from Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was the 74th speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly (1997–2003), and served a total of 14 years in the Assembly (1992–2006). Prior to his years in the Assembly, he served as chief of staff to Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson.
Joel M. Kleefisch is a former American politician and a former television reporter who now works as a lobbyist. He served fourteen years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing parts of Waukesha, Jefferson, and eastern Dane counties. His wife, Rebecca Kleefisch, was the Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin.
Donald Pridemore is a retired American electrical engineer and Republican politician from Hartford, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly for 10 years, from 2005 to 2015. He is running to return to the Assembly in 2024, in what is now Wisconsin's 98th Assembly district. He also ran unsuccessfully for Wisconsin Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2013 and for Wisconsin Senate in a 2021 special election.
Christopher J. Larson is an American Democratic politician and a member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing southeast Milwaukee County since 2011. He was Senate minority leader from 2013 through 2014, and currently serves as Senate Democratic caucus chair.
The 2012 United States Senate election in Wisconsin took place on November 6, 2012, alongside a U.S. presidential election as well as other elections to the United States Senate and House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Democratic Senator Herb Kohl retired instead of running for re-election to a fifth term. This was the first open Senate seat in Wisconsin since 1988, when Kohl won his first term.
Waukesha County Park System is located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. It is composed of nine different parks throughout the county: Fox Brook Park, Fox River Park, Menomonee Park, Minooka Park, Mukwonago Park, Muskego Park, Naga-Waukee Park, and Nashotah Park. "From swimming to camping to hiking and cross-country skiing, each park has its own personality." The park system also has five lake accesses: Ashippun Lake, Nagawicka Lake, Nemahbin, Pewaukee Lake, and School Section; two golf courses: Naga-Waukee War Memorial, and Moors Down; two ice arenas: Naga-Waukee and Eble; Retzer Nature Center; and the Waukesha County Expo Center. Dogs are permitted at all parks with the exception of Retzer Nature Center. Minooka Park, Mukwonago Park and Nashotah Park offer the community fenced in dog parks.
André Jacque is an American consultant and Republican politician from De Pere, Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing Wisconsin's 1st Senate district since 2019. He previously served four terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly (2011–2019). He was a candidate in the 2024 Republican primary for United States House of Representatives in Wisconsin's 8th congressional district.
Christopher Lee Kapenga is an American businessman and Republican politician from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He is the president of the Wisconsin Senate, since 2021, and has served in the state Senate since 2015, representing Wisconsin's 33rd Senate district. He previously served two and a half terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Paul Farrow is an American businessman and Republican politician from Pewaukee, Wisconsin. He is the county executive of Waukesha County, Wisconsin, since 2015. He previously served two years each in the Wisconsin Senate and State Assembly, and was chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin from August 2021 through December 2022.
Benjamin Franklin Goss was an American farmer, printer and merchant from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, who served two terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly from Waukesha County: one in 1855 as a Whig, and the other in 1893 as a Democrat. In the interim, he had spent some time in Illinois, Iowa, and Kansas, and served as an officer in the American Civil War. In his later years, his greatest fame was as an amateur ornithologist.
Adam Neylon is an American small business owner and Republican politician from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Wisconsin's 15th Assembly district since 2025; he previously represented the 98th Assembly district from 2013 to 2025.
Janel Brandtjen is an American businesswoman and Republican politician and from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. She was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Wisconsin's 22nd Assembly district from January 2015 until January 2025. She has been a leader among those in Wisconsin denying the results of the 2020 United States presidential election and seeking retribution against those who participated in the election administration. She has a long running feud with Republican state Assembly speaker Robin Vos, and she was one of several state lawmakers who signed a letter asking Vice President Mike Pence to reject the electoral votes of Wisconsin at the January 6, 2021, counting of electoral college votes.
Cody Horlacher is an American lawyer and Republican politician from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He is a Wisconsin circuit court judge in Waukesha County and previously served four terms as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 33rd Assembly district from 2015 through 2022.
Joseph Bond was a pioneer settler of what became Waukesha County in the Wisconsin Territory, and an active Democratic politician, serving in the territorial legislature and later in the Wisconsin State Assembly as well as holding local offices.
Chuck Wichgers is an American businessman and Republican politician from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Wisconsin's 84th Assembly district since 2025; he previously represented the 82nd Assembly district during the 2023–2024 term, and represented the 83rd Assembly district from 2017 to 2023.
Nikolaus Peter "Nik" Rettinger III is an American political staffer and Republican politician from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He served one term as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Wisconsin's 83rd Assembly district during the 2023–2024 term. He is also vice chairman of the Young Republican National Federation.
