Scouting and Guiding in Spain

The Scout Movement in Spain consists of about 30 independent associations, most of them active on the regional level. Due to the regionalisation of Spain, even the larger nationwide associations are divided into regional sub-associations with individual emblems, uniforms and Scout programs.

WOSM member organizations

The Federación de Escultismo en España is the National Scout Organization within WOSM. It serves 58,744 Scouts (as of 2004) and consists of three member organizations:

WAGGGS member organizations

Spanish Guiding is affiliated to WAGGGS via the Comité de Enlace del Guidismo en España, an umbrella federation serving 7.154 members (as of 2003). The Comité has two member organizations; both are again umbrella federations:

Scouts Hispanos was a Spanish Catholic Scouting organization created in Madrid by the priest Jesús Martínez in 1934, which had some social impact and was adopted in other cities, but was cut short with the advent of the Spanish Civil War. [1]

Scouting in Belgium started in 1911, and Guiding followed in 1915. The Belgian Scouts were among the charter members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1922, and the Guides were one of the founding members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928. The federation counts 121,600 Scouts and 59,268 Guides.

The Asociación de Scouts de Nicaragua was the national Scouting organization of Nicaragua. Scouting in Nicaragua started in 1917 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1946. The coeducational association had 1,509 members.

The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) Scouts of the World Award is available to Scouts and non-Scouts. It was introduced in 2005 to give "young people more opportunities to face the challenges of the future", as identified by the United Nations Millennium Declaration in 2000 which identified eight Millennium Development Goals, and helps participants work towards those goals.

The Federació Catalana d'Escoltisme i Guiatge is the federation of three Scout and Guide associations in Catalonia. It is an associated member of the Federación de Escultismo en España (FEE) and a full member of the Comité de Enlace del Guidismo en España (CEGE). Through FEE and CEGE it ensures the memberships of the Catalan Scout and Guide associations in the World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Exploradores de España</span> Spanish Scout association (1912-1940)

The Exploradores de España was a Spanish Scout association founded by Cavalry captain Teodoro Iradier y Herrero in 1912 and inspired by the boy scouts of Robert Baden-Powell, whose objective was physical, moral, civic and patriotic education. In its early years it had a rapid growth and expansion. The association was a founding member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922, which it belonged to until 1938.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Exploradores Barceloneses</span> Barcelonan Scout association (1911–1940)

The Exploradores Barceloneses was the first scouting initiative in Spain, the local version of Robert Baden-Powell's Boy Scouts founded in 1911 by cavalry captain Pedro Roselló Axet. It was a pro-Spanish institution that was also in favor of decentralization. This initiative was successful thanks to the collaboration of teachers from various private schools.
