The Western Region is located in south Ghana, spreads from the Ivory Coast in the west to the Central region in the east, includes the capital and large twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi on the coast, coastal Axim, and a hilly inland area including Elubo. It includes Ghana's southernmost location, Cape Three Points, where crude oil was discovered in commercial quantities in June 2007. The region covers an area of 13,842 sq. km, and had a population of 2,060,585 at the 2021 Census.

The district assembly was located in the western part of Western Region and had Enchi as its capital town.

Paul Evans Aidoo is a Ghanaian teacher and politician. He is the Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso and is the Minister for the Western Region of Ghana. Prior to heading the Western Region, he was the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister. He has been condemned for "promoting hatred" by Ghana's Centre for Popular Education and Human Rights after the minister urged people to report suspected homosexuals. "All efforts are being made to get rid of these people in the society," he said.
Asunafo North Municipal District is one of the six districts in Ahafo Region, Ghana. It was formerly part of the then-larger Asunafo District from 1988 until the southern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 12 November, 2003 to become Asunafo South District. The remaining norther part was renamed as Asunafo North District which was later elevated to municipal status on 29 February 2008 to become Asunafo North Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of Ahafo Region and has Goaso as its capital town.
Sefwi Akontombra is a small town and is the capital of Sefwi Akontombra district, a district in the Western North Region of Ghana.
Sefwi Wiawso is a town in the Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District in the Western North Region of Ghana. It doubles as the capital of Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District and Western North Region. Wiawso serves as the traditional seat for the Omanhene of Sefwi-Wiawso traditional area. The settlement of wiawso began on hilltop with Sefwi-Dwenase settlement occupying the lowlands. Overtime, Wiawso and Sefwi-Dwenase have conurbated with almost all the financial institutions, governmental agency-offices, lorry terminals and the main market all located in Sefwi Dwenase. Wiawso is known for producing timber,cocoa and cashew.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Bia District on August 2004, which was created from the former Sefwi-Bibiani District Council, until the northeast part of the district was split off to create Bia East District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Bia West District. The district assembly is located in the northwest part of Western North Region and has Sefwi Essam as its capital town.
Bia East District is one of the nine districts in Western North Region, Ghana.It was formerly part of the then-larger Bia District until the Eastern part was split off in 2012 to form the Bia East District while the Western part was renamed as Bia West District.The district assembly is located in the northwest part of Western North Region and has Sefwi Adabokrom as its capital town. The larger Bia District was created from the former Sefwi-Bibiani District in 2004.
The Wiawso College of Education is a teacher education college in the Sefwi-Wiawso District, Western North Region, Ghana. The college participated in the DFID-funded T-TEL programme. It is affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba.
Juaboso District is one of the nine districts in Western North Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Juaboso-Bodi District on August 2004, which was created from the former Sefwi-Bibiani District Council, until the southeast part of the district was split off to create Bodi District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Juaboso District. The district assembly is located in the northwest part of Western North Region and has Juaboso as its capital town.

Alex Djornobuah Tetteh is a Ghanaian politician. He is a deputy minister for Western North and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Sefwi-Akontombra Constituency in the Western North Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
William Kwabena Aduhene was a Ghanaian teacher and politician. He was the member of parliament for the Sefwi Wiawso electoral district from 1956 to 1965. In 1965 he became the member of parliament representing the Wassaw-Akropong constituency. While in parliament, he held various appointments; he was the Ministerial Secretary to the Minister of State for Presidential Matters in Parliament, he was later appointed Deputy Minister for Defence and once served as the chairman of the State Diamond Mining Corporation. Prior to politics, Aduhene was a teacher at Sefwi Wiawso.

However on 1988, it was split off into two new district assemblies: Sefwi-Wiawso District, Juaboso-Bia District and Bibiani/Anhwiaso/Bekwai District. The district council was located in the northern part of Western Region and had Wiawso as its capital town.
