Self Portrait is the fifth studio album by the American hardcore punk band Loma Prieta. The Jack Shirley-produced album was released on CD, cassette and digital platforms by Deathwish Inc. on October 2, 2015, followed by a vinyl release on November 13 also by Deathwish. [3] In a press release, Self Portrait was described as featuring "unorthodox melodies amid a tangle of pensive, despondent vocals" inspired by the California hardcore bands Funeral Diner and Mohinder, among others. Hardcore punk Subgenre of punk rock

Hardcore punk is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant hippie cultural climate of the time. It was also inspired by New York punk rock and early proto-punk. New York punk had a harder-edged sound than its San Francisco counterpart, featuring anti-art expressions of masculine anger, energy, and subversive humor. Hardcore punk generally disavows commercialism, the established music industry and "anything similar to the characteristics of mainstream rock" and often addresses social and political topics with "confrontational, politically-charged lyrics."

Loma Prieta (band)

Loma Prieta is an American hardcore punk band that formed in 2005. The group is based in San Francisco, California and derived their name from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Most of the group's early material was released on their own record label named Discos Huelga. Loma Prieta has toured the US, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Japan. They share members with Punch. Their often dark and emotionally charged music blends a range of styles, most prominently screamo and powerviolence.

Deathwish Inc.

Deathwish, Inc. is an independent record label founded by Jacob Bannon of Converge and Tre McCarthy. The idea of the label was conceived by Bannon and McCarthy in 2000. Their first release was Deeper the Wound, a split album between Converge and Japanese band Hellchild on April 23, 2001. Deathwish established itself quickly, working with a diverse group of bands and eventually becoming one of the most respected and innovative labels in contemporary hardcore punk and aggressive music in general.

Loma Prieta promoted Self Portrait with a 7" single of the opening track "Love" backed with the exclusive B-side "Trilogy 0 (Debris)" released on July 24, 2015, by Deathwish. [2] The band released a music video for "Love" on September 9, 2015, directed by Kyle Camarillo. Writing for Vice magazine's music blog Noisey, John Hill said the video perfectly represented the song's build up and that "the visual starts with the band in a black and white space devoid of anything but the band playing. As the song progresses, the vision of what they're doing intensifies and distorts itself to the point where you can't really understand what's going on. It's here where the song and its strength hits its total power, visually and sonically." [4] Loma Prieta also helped promote Self Portrait with an online stream of the song "Never Remember". [5]

The band broke up in late 2005, but after a hiatus of almost 2 years they got back to play together in September 2007. They are often held responsible for bringing the screamo genre to Europe following its high point in the United States during the careers of bands such as Orchid and Saetia.

Code Orange is an American hardcore punk band that formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2008. The band signed to Deathwish Inc. for their first two studio albums Love Is Love/Return to Dust (2012) and I Am King (2014) and have since released a third, Forever (2017), through Roadrunner Records. XTRMST is an American straight edge hardcore punk band featuring Davey Havok and Jade Puget of AFI. XTRMST is Havok and Puget's second side project after their electronic project Blaqk Audio. Rust is the third studio album by the American hardcore band Harm's Way. Released on March 10, 2015 through Deathwish Inc., Rust—like the preceding EP, Blinded—was produced by Andy Nelson of the powerviolence band Weekend Nachos. The album was sonically influenced by Godflesh, Helmet and Celtic Frost, and Harm's Way promoted its release with a stream for "Law of the Land" and music videos for "Amongst the Rust" and "Left to Disintegrate."

Frameworks (band)

Frameworks are an American post-hardcore band from Gainesville, Florida that formed in 2011. The band released its debut album, Loom, thorough Topshelf Records in 2014 before signing to Deathwish Inc. for its second studio album, Smother, released on July 8, 2016.

Oathbreaker is a Belgian band from Flanders, formed in 2008 and currently signed to Deathwish Inc. The band consists of guitarists Lennart Bossu and Gilles Demolder, drummer Wim Coppers, and vocalist Caro Tanghe, who performs both screamed and sung vocals. They are a part of Amenra's Church of Ra collective. Following a self-titled EP, Oathbreaker have released three studio albums: Mælstrøm (2011), Eros|Anteros (2013) and Rheia (2016). The latter two albums came out on Deathwish and received generally positive reviews.

Super Unison is an American rock band that formed in 2014. The band's name was derived from the song of the same name released on 90s post-hardcore band Drive Like Jehu's second studio album Yank Crime. Vocalist Meghan O'Neil Pennie describes the band's early material as "a weird intersection of Dischord Records and riot grrrl." The band has self-released an EP and released their debut studio album Auto through Deathwish Inc. in 2016.

We Already Lost the World is the second studio album by the French punk band Birds in Row. The album was released on July 13, 2018 through Deathwish Inc. The album is the first release of since 2015's split EP with WAITC, and the band's first full-length album in six years since their 2012 debut, You, Me & the Violence. The album's title and lose lyrical themes touch on the band's political and social views toward life. In an interview, they said: "We Already Lost the World means [the world is] not in our hands yet, but it could be if we worked together for the common good."
