Selma was platted in 1842 when the Xenia and Columbus Pike was extended to that point. [2] A post office called Selma was established in 1841, and remained in operation until 1967. [3] Selma was a station on the Underground Railroad. [4]

The population was 302 at the 2000 census, at which time it was a village. In 2005, the residents of Lawrenceville voted to dissolve the corporation, ending Lawrenceville's village status.
