Senafe subregion is a subregion in the Debub (Southern) region (Zoba Debub) of Eritrea. Its capital is Senafe, and high points include Emba Soira.

Overview

Lying on the edge of the Ethiopian Highlands, the district is inhabited by the Tigrinya and the Saho.

Senafe is known for the ruins of Metera (also known as Balaw Kalaw), the monolithic church of Enda-Tsadkan.

Qohaito or Koloe was a major ancient city in what is now the Debub region of Eritrea. It was a pre-Aksumite settlement that thrived during the Aksumite period. The city was located over 2,500 meters above sea level, on a high plateau at the edge of the Great Rift Valley. As of 2011, Qohaito's stone ruins have yet to be excavated. The ancient port city of Adulis is directly to the east, while Matara lies to the south.

Metera or መጠራ (𐩣𐩷𐩧) is a small town and important archeological site located in the Debub Region of Eritrea. Situated a few kilometers south of Senafe (ሰንዓፈ), it was a major city in the Dʿmt (𐩵𐩲𐩣𐩩) and Aksumite kingdoms. The town has the oldest Example of Ge’ez, which is a pre-Aksumite Obelisk, Hawulti (monument). Since Eritrean independence, the National Museum of Eritrea has petitioned the Ethiopian government to return artifacts removed from the site. However, the efforts have thus far been rebuffed.

Bati is a district in the Oromia Zone of the Amhara region of Ethiopia. Bati is bordered on the south by Dawa Harewa, on the southeast by the Argobba special woreda, on the west and north by the Debub Wollo Zone, and on the east by the Afar Region. Towns in this woreda include its administrative center, the market town of Bati. The towns of Degan and Gerba were administratively part of Bati before the 2007 census but was then transferred to Kalu woreda.
