Serita Solomon (born 1 March 1990) is a British track and field athlete competing in the hurdles. She was the bronze medallist in the 60 metres hurdles at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2015. [1] Solomon holds a personal best of 12.87 seconds for the outdoor 100 metres hurdles and represented England in that event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Born in Bromley, [2] Solomon became involved in athletics at a young age, taking it up at primary school to follow in the footsteps of her older brother. [3] She joined Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletic Club around 2005 and competed for the club in sprints and hurdles. She represented the club at the 2006 European Champion Clubs Cup for Juniors and placed second in the 100 metres hurdles. After an English junior title in that event in 2007, she returned to the European club competition in 2009 and won the B group hurdles race, as well as taking second in the 100 metres. [4]
Working with successful British coach Lloyd Cowan, her first year as a senior athlete in 2010 did not go well: she failed to get past the heats at the British Indoor Athletics Championships and did not finish at the London Grand Prix meeting. [4] This was also her first year of competition while studying at Middlesex University. [5] Her 2011 season went much better. Starting indoors, she was a national finalist in the 60 m hurdles, then shared the British indoor universities title with Ashley Helsby with a new personal best of 8.40 seconds. [4] [6] Outdoors, she knocked three tenths of a second off her 100 m hurdles best with a run of 13.51 seconds in Bedford, then won the British under-23 title. A further improvement to 13.27 seconds came in July, but she was much slower in the British trials, coming last in the final. In 2012, she was the English senior champion and placed fifth at the British Olympic trials for the 2012 London Olympics, but did not qualify to compete at the event. [4]
Solomon began edging nearer the top of the British elite in 2013, when she placed fourth at the British Indoor Championships, and improved her 60 m hurdles best to 8.16 seconds a week later at the Midland Counties Open. She lowered her outdoor best three times that season, to 13.23, then 13.21, and finally 13.09 seconds. [4] The latter mark came in the heats of the British Athletics Championships, at which she was runner-up to Tiffany Porter. [7] She did not improve her bests in 2014, but did place in the top three at the national championships, both indoors and out. [4] This gained her her first international selection for England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. [2] At the games she missed qualifying for the final by one thousandth of a second and ultimately ranked tenth overall. [8] She also represented Great Britain for the first time at the 2014 European Team Championships Super League, in which she placed eighth overall in the hurdles. [4]
She had strong indoor form at the start of 2015, bringing her 60 m hurdles best down to 8.13 seconds, then 8.11 seconds. In the absence of Tiffany Porter, she was the winner of the British indoor title with a time of 8.04 seconds. [9] This brought her a place on the team for the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships and she excelled, improving her personal best in the heat (8.03), semi-final (7.95), and then the final (7.93) – as a result, she took the bronze medal behind Alina Talay and fellow British athlete Lucy Hatton. [10] This time raised her to fourth on the British all-time lists for the event, behind Porter, Jessica Ennis and Hatton. [11]

Jenny Margareta Kallur is a Swedish former track and field athlete who competed in hurdling and sprinting events. Her twin sister Susanna Kallur, who is four minutes younger, is also a 100 m hurdler. She was coached by Torbjörn Eriksson and Anders Henriksson.
Susanna Elisabeth "Sanna" Kallur is a Swedish former athlete competing mainly in sprint hurdles. She has won several international medals, including the gold medal in the 100 m hurdles at the 2006 European Athletics Championships. Kallur formerly holds the world indoor record for the 60 metres hurdles.
Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill is a retired British track and field athlete from England, specialising in the heptathlon and 100 metres hurdles. As a competitor in heptathlon, she is the 2012 Olympic champion, a three-time world champion, and the 2010 European champion. She is also the 2010 World Indoor pentathlon champion. A member of the City of Sheffield & Dearne athletic club, she is a former British national record holder for the heptathlon. She is also a former British record holder in the 100 metres hurdles, the high jump and the indoor pentathlon.
Ljubica Christina Vukicevic Demidov is a Norwegian former hurdler. She represented Ski IL, and was coached by her father Petar Vukićević, who participated for Yugoslavia in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Her brother, Vladimir Vukicevic, is also a hurdler.
Sarah Claxton is a retired English athlete who specialised in the 100 metres hurdles.
Lena Berntsson is a Swedish athlete who has competed internationally in both weightlifting and track and field. She lifts in the 53 kg weight category in weightlifting and on the track she specialises in short sprinting events, particularly the 60 metres.
Isabelle Pedersen is a Norwegian hurdling athlete. At the 2010 World Junior Championships, she won a gold medal in the 100 metres hurdles.
Eilidh Doyle is a retired British track and field athlete. Originally running as Eilidh Child, she specialised in the 400 metres hurdles outdoors, and the 400 metres flat indoors, as well as the 4 x 400 metres relay on both surfaces. She represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Individually, she is the 2014 European Champion and a three-time Commonwealth silver medalist in the 400 metres hurdles.
Dr. Tiffany Adaeze Porter is a track and field athlete with joint British and American nationality who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles. She represented the United States as a junior, but began representing Great Britain in 2010 on joining the senior ranks after moving to England and competed for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Alina Henadzeuna Talay is a Belarusian track and field athlete who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles.
Xénia Siska is a Hungarian track and field athlete who specialised in the 100 metres hurdles. She is her country's best ever female sprint hurdler, holding from 1984 to 2020 the Hungarian record in the 100 m hurdles, and from 1985 to 2019 the 60 metres hurdles and 50 metres hurdles. She is also a co-holder of the 4×100 metres relay national record.
Lucy Hatton is a British track and field athlete competing in the hurdles. She was the silver medallist in the 60 metres hurdles at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2015. Her personal best of 7.90 seconds in that event ranks her third on the British all-time lists.
Ewa Nikola Swoboda is a Polish track and field sprinter who specialises in the short sprints. She is a three-time European Indoor Championships medallist in the 60 metres, having won the gold medal in 2019 and silvers in 2017 and 2023.
Andrea Ivančević is a Croatian track and field athlete who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles. She has a best of 12.85 seconds for the event which is as well Croatian national record. She holds Croatian records in the indoor 60 metres and 60 metres hurdles. Ivančević has represented Croatia at the European Athletics Championships, European Athletics Indoor Championships and the IAAF World Indoor Championships
Kendra "Keni" Harrison is an American hurdler. Harrison held the world record in the women's 100 metres hurdles with a time of 12.20 seconds, set on July 22, 2016 at the London Müller Anniversary Games, breaking the previous world record of 12.21 seconds achieved nearly 28 years earlier by Bulgarian athlete Yordanka Donkova.
Nadine Visser is a Dutch track and field athlete who competed in the combined events until 2017 and specialises in short hurdling since 2018.
Danielle Gracia Williams is a Jamaican track and field athlete specialising in the 100 metres hurdles. She is best known for winning gold medals at the 2015 World Championships and at the 2023 World Championships. In addition, she won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships, won two medals at Summer Universiades, bronze in 2013 and gold in 2015, won silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2018 NACAC Championships, and represented her country at the 2013 World Championships, all in the 100m hurdles.
Cynthia Nonyelum Sember is an American-born British track and field athlete, specialising in sprint hurdles. She finished fourth in the 100 metres hurdles final at the 2016 Olympic Games as a 22 year old. but suffered significant injury set backs thereafter which interrupted most of the next Olympic cycle. Her first major international medal, a silver at the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships sparked a return to form and fitness that saw her finish fifth at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, and secure bronze for England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, her first senior outdoor medal. She made the final of the same event at the 2022 European Athletics Championships but a stumble left her in 8th position in her third major final of the year.
Ilona Bruzsenyák is a Hungarian former track and field athlete who competed in the women's pentathlon, long jump and 100 metres hurdles. She was the gold medallist in the long jump at the 1974 European Athletics Championships. Bruzsenyák represented her nation at the Summer Olympics in 1972 and 1976, competing in both long jump and pentathlon. She was a ten-time national champion at the Hungarian Athletics Championships.
Yasmin Miller is a British track and field athlete who has competed in sprint and hurdles events. She competed in the 100 metres hurdles for Great Britain at the age of 16 at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics. She won the same event at that year's Commonwealth Youth Games and was also a member of the winning 4 × 100 metres relay team. She repeated the latter success in the 2013 European Athletics Junior Championships. Miller has enjoyed some success at national-level hurdling, winning two bronze, a silver and gold in the 60 metres hurdles at the British Indoor Athletics Championships and a silver and a bronze in the 100 m hurdles at the British Athletics Championships.
