Shakti is an album by saxophonist David S. Ware which was recorded in 2008 and released on the AUM Fidelity label. [1] [2] This was the first album Ware recorded after the breakup of the quartet that had been his main band for over 20 years.

In his review for AllMusic, Michael G. Nastos said "Those who enjoy the music of David S. Ware can easily relate to this excellent recording of his new music concept, backed by equally extraordinary players who perfectly understand his vision and purpose". [3] PopMatters review stated "Shakti operates as a call to remind people of their deeper essences". [4]
The All About Jazz review noted "A refreshingly lyrical and emotionally committed performance by masterful improvisers, Shakti ebbs with soulful intensity and inspired interplay, making this one of the most compelling, yet accessible, recordings of Ware's career". [5] The JazzTimes review by Steve Greenlee commented "Ware’s old storminess helped him produce some of free jazz’s finest works. Shakti is no less fascinating. William Parker is an American free jazz double bassist. Beginning in the 1980s, Parker played with Cecil Taylor for over a decade, and he has led the Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra since 1981. The Village Voice named him "the most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time" and DownBeat has called him "one of the most adventurous and prolific bandleaders in jazz".

AUM Fidelity is an independent record label in New York City primarily devoted to avant-garde jazz artists such as William Parker, Matthew Shipp, and David S. Ware. It was founded in 1997 by former Homestead Records label manager Steven Joerg.
