Sharad Kumar (born 28 October 1955) is a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer,firmer Vigilance Commissioner of the Central Vigilance Commission and former Director General (DG) of National Investigation Agency. [1] [2] On superannuation he was employed,in the same post,on contract for period of one year. As a contractor,he is not bound by the All India Service rule norms. [3]
Sharad Kumar is a Graduate in Science (BSc). Kumar was born in Bareilly,Uttar Pradesh. Graduation from Bareilly college,Bareilly.
Kumar joined the Haryana cadre of the Indian Police Service in 1979. His previous post was director general (prisons) in Haryana. Kumar was posted as DSP in Gurgaon,Ambala and Rohtak. He remained the Inspector General of Police,Rohtak range for nearly three years and was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in November,2007. Kumar was deployed to the Central Bureau of Investigation from July 1991 to July 1999 as SP and DIG. [4]
He has served as the Director General of National Investigation Agency from August 2013 to October 2017 and subsequently retired from NIA. [4]
On 10 June 2018,he was appointed as vigilance commissioner in Central Vigilance Commission for a term of four years or till he attains the age of 65,whichever is earlier. [5] [6]
In June 2019,he has been named interim Central Vigilance Commissioner until a new incumbent is chosen by the selection panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and where he served till April 2020. [7]
He has received President's Police Medals for Meritorious and Distinguished services in the year 1996 and 2004 respectively. [4]
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the domestic crime investigating agency of India. It operates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Personnel,Public Grievances and Pensions. Originally set up to investigate bribery and governmental corruption,in 1965 it received expanded jurisdiction to investigate breaches of central laws enforceable by the Government of India,multi-state organised crime,multi-agency or international cases. Haryana Raxil drug purchase scam case is a case under investigation by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Bhupinder Singh Hooda for the illegal purchase of Raxil fungicide which resulted in INR80 crore loss to the government. This scam,initially exposed by Ashok Khemka,is also pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Arvind Kumar is a retired 1984 (37RR) batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer,and is a former Director of the Intelligence Bureau. the senior-most ranked IPS officer. After retirement,he was appointed as a Vigilance Commissioner of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on 3 August 2022 and served there till 30 September 2024.
Surjeet Singh Deswal also known as S S Deswal is an Indian Police Service officer of 1984 batch,who worked as the Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and retired from same post on 31 August 2021 the India's primary border guarding organization ofIndo-China International Borders,since his appointment on 31 October 2018 with additional charge of Border Security Force. He is a 1984 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. He previously served as the Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
