Sharon L. Erickson Ropes (born January 23,1954) is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 31,which includes portions of Fillmore,Houston,and Winona counties in the southeastern part of the state. A Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 2006. [1] She was subsequently unseated by Republican Jeremy Miller in the 2010 general election. [2]
Erickson Ropes was a member and vice chair of the Senate's Agriculture and Veterans Committee. She served on the Health,Housing and Family Security Committee,and on the Higher Education Committee. She also served on the Finance subcommittees for the Agriculture and Veterans Budget and Policy Division (serving as vice chair),the Health and Human Services Budget Division,and the Higher Education Budget and Policy Division. [3] Her special legislative concerns included health care,education,and the environment. [1]
Erickson Ropes is a registered nurse by profession. She was born in Two Harbors and graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1972. She went on to the College of Saint Teresa in Winona,where she received a B.A. in French and a B.S. in Nursing in 1976. She then served as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy Nurse Corps in North Carolina and Virginia from 1977 to 1982. [1]
Erickson Ropes has served on various government and community boards and organizations. She was a member of the Minnesota Attorney General's Task Force on Consumer Rights and Health Care. She was a member of the Winona School Board,serving as chair from 2000 to 2001,and a member and former president of the board of directors of the Minnesota State Parent-Teacher Association. She is a member of the state advisory board of Minnesota Master Gardeners. [4]
James Murray Vickerman was an American politician from Minnesota who served as Minnesota State Senator,first elected in 1986 in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's "firestorm" that swept southwestern Minnesota during the height of the 1980s Midwestern farm crisis. In that election,he unseated incumbent Senator Doran Isackson,winning by a substantial margin. He was re-elected in 1990,1992,1996,2000,2002 and 2006. On February 22,2010,he announced that he would not seek an eighth term,noting that he was doing so "with the satisfaction that when it's done right,our government can and does serve people." His term officially ended on January 3,2011.
Patricia "Pat" Pariseau was an American nurse,politician,and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 36,which includes portions of Dakota,Goodhue,Scott and Washington counties in the southern Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Republican,she was first elected to the Senate in a 1988 special election held after the resignation of Senator Darril Wegscheid. She was re-elected in 1990,1992,1996,2000,2002 and 2006. Prior to the 1992 legislative redistricting,she represented the old District 37. On February 22,2010,she announced that she would not seek an eighth term.
Gary W. Kubly was a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 20,which includes portions of Big Stone,Chippewa,Kandiyohi,Lac qui Parle,Lincoln,McLeod,Meeker,Renville,Swift and Yellow Medicine counties in the west central part of the state. A Democrat,he was first elected to the Senate in 2002,and was re-elected in 2006 and 2010. Prior to that,he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives representing the old District 15B from 1997 to 2003.
Linda Lee Berglin is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 61,which includes portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County,which is in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 1980,and was re-elected in each election until she resigned on August 15,2011,to take a position with Hennepin County. Linda Higgins is a Minnesota politician who represented the second district of Hennepin County as county commissioner from late 2012 to January 2019. Higgins is a former member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 58,which included portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County,which is in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. On May 20,2012,she was endorsed by the DFL party for the position,and won the election in November. In 2014,she ran unopposed and was reelected. She served as the Vice-Chair of the County Board,and Chair of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority. She retired from the county board in January 2019.
