Shawnee, Missouri

Shawnee is an historic unincorporated community in Shannon County, in the Ozarks of southern Missouri, United States. [1] The community was located on Little Shawnee Creek, approximately two miles southeast of Eminence at an elevation of 825 feet. [2] The location is along County Road 507, about midway between Missouri Route 106 to the north and Missouri Route H to the southeast. [3]

History

A post office called "Shawnee" was established in 1889, and remained in operation until 1920. [4] The community derives its name from the Shawnee Indians. [5]

Shannon County is a county in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the population was 8,441. Its county seat is Eminence. The county was officially organized on January 29, 1841, and was named in honor of George F. "Peg-Leg" Shannon, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Guild is an unincorporated community in southeast Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community was located on a ridge just west of Stillhouse Branch and approximately one-half mile south of the South Prong Jacks Fork. The community of Hattie was about 1.5 miles to the northeast on the South Prong. Access is via Missouri Route NN from Howell County and Mt. Olive Road. The former Mt. Olive School was located to the east across Stillhouse Branch.

Hattie is an extinct town in southeast Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. The community is on the South Prong Jacks Fork, south of Missouri Route Y, and two miles north of the county line.

Nagle or Nogle is an extinct town in southeast Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. The community was located just east of Missouri Route 137 and north of the North Prong of Jacks Fork Creek. The local road, Nagle Drive, serves the area just east of Route 137.
