Leon County is a county in the Panhandle of the U.S. state of Florida. It was named after the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León. As of the 2020 census, the population was 292,198. The county seat is Tallahassee, which is also the state capital and home to many politicians, lobbyists, jurists, and attorneys. Leon County is included in the Tallahassee, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tallahassee is home to two of Florida's major public universities, Florida State University and Florida A&M University, as well as Tallahassee Community College. Together these institutions have a combined enrollment of more than 70,000 students annually, creating both economic and social effects.
Wakulla County is a county located in the Big Bend region in the northern portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 33,764. Its county seat is Crawfordville. Wakulla County is part of the Tallahassee, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wakulla County has a near-absence of any municipal population, with two small municipalities holding about 3% of the population. The county seat, Crawfordville, is one of only two unincorporated county seats among Florida's 67 counties.
The Florida panhandle is the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Florida. It is a salient roughly 200 miles (320 km) long, bordered by Alabama on the north and the west, Georgia on the north, and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. Its eastern boundary is arbitrarily defined. Ochlockonee River State Park is a Florida State Park located in Wakulla County, Florida, south of the town of Sopchoppy in the Florida Panhandle. Located off of U.S. 319 on the Ochlockonee River, just north of the Gulf of Mexico coast, it is surrounded by the Apalachicola National Forest and the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and provides important habitat for the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.
Tallahassee State College (TSC) is a public community college in Tallahassee, Florida. It is part of the Florida College System and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. As of fall 2017, TSC reported 24,639 students. From 1970 to 2024, the institution was known as Tallahassee Community College.
Panacea is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Wakulla County, Florida, United States. The population was 735 at the 2020 census, down from 816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The mule drawn and wooden railed Panacea Team brought tourists from Sopchoppy. It is home to Gulf Specimen Marine Lab and its nature center.

Florida's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Florida. The district consists of the eastern part of the Florida Panhandle along with much of the Big Bend region along the Emerald Coast. It straddles both the Eastern and Central time zones. It includes Tallahassee, the state capital, and Panama City. With 49% of its residents living in rural areas, it is the least urbanized district in the state, and voters are generally conservative. The district is represented by Republican Neal Dunn of Panama City.
Port Leon, Florida, was a river port town located in what is now Wakulla County, Florida. The town existed for only about six years in the first half of the 19th century. Port Leon is classified as an "extinct city" by the State Library and Archives of Florida, and only remnants can be found today.
The Big Bend of Florida, United States, is an informally named geographic region of North Florida where the Florida Panhandle transitions to the Florida Peninsula south and east of Tallahassee. The region is known for its vast woodlands and marshlands and its low population density relative to much of the state. The area is home to the largest single spring in the United States, the Alapaha Rise, and the longest surveyed underwater cave in the United States, the 32-mile (51 km) Wakulla-Leon Sinks cave system.
The Wakulla State Forest is in the U.S. state of Florida. The 4,897-acre (20 km2) forest is located in the panhandle, near Tallahassee; it includes a major tract in Wakulla County and a small tract, the former Woodville State Forest, in Leon County. The forest is also a Wildlife Management Area managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

According to AllAccess.com, WHBX is the highest rated station in the Tallahassee, FL market, joining sister stations Blazin 102.3 and Star 98 as the market's highest rated stations. Its studios are located in the westside of Tallahassee and its transmitter is based near Wakulla State Forest, south of the city.
Wakulla Correctional Institution is a prison located 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Tallahassee, Florida. It is located in Wakulla County, and served by the Crawfordville, Florida post office.
Fort Stansbury was a frontier outpost created during the Seminole War (1835—1842), and also used during the Civil War. The fort was located in current Wakulla County, Florida, in between Tallahassee and Wakulla Springs. It was headquarters for the U.S. 3rd Infantry Regiment. Its construction would have been typical of other forts built at the time, utilizing blockhouses and made from split pine trees. According to a contemporary account, of the 600 man garrison, a third became sick due to fever, dysentery, and other illness. The fort was occupied from, at the latest, September 1840, and abandoned by around April 1843. It was under the command of Lt. Colonel Ethan Allen Hitchcock from October 1842 until January 13, 1843. Despite there being no record of an artillery unit posted to the fort, the discovery of a jacket button belong to the Artillery Corps indicates that the fort may have been equipped with cannons or other large guns.
