Sherie Merlis (born Sharifah Saadah Wan Zainal Abidin; 23 October 1972) is a Malaysian actress. Her acting career began in 1989 and has received nominations in the Malaysia Film Festival, Screen Awards and Asian Film Awards. [1] [2]
Born in Sibu, Sarawak, she is the third of five siblings in an ethnic Malay family. Her parents are Wan Zainal Kassim Tuanku Zainal Abidin and Raden Kasron Aini. On her father's side, Sherie is of Arab and Sarawakian Malay descent, and on her mother's side she is of Pontianak Malay and Chinese descent. Her mother is related to the Pontianak Sultanate of Borneo. Merlis is the daughter of Wan Kassim Tuanku Zainalabidin and Raden Kasron Aini. At the age of 17, Sherie Merlis started working as an actor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In 2012 she married music producer Tengku Shafiz Rullah As Syafiee (former husband of Dira Abu Zahar), also known as Ash. They have two children: Tengku Kaseh Anaqah, born on July 1, 2012, and Tengku Areef Bolkiah As Syafiee, born on January 21, 2014. [3]

Pontianak is a 1957 Malay horror film directed by Indian film director Balakrishna Narayana Rao, popularly known as B.N. Rao, and starring Maria Menado and M. Amin. Based on the Malay folktales of a blood-sucking ghost born from a woman who dies in childbirth, the smash hit premiered on 27 April 1957 and screened for almost three months at the local Cathay cinemas. Its success spawned two other sequels, Dendam Pontianak and Sumpah Pontianak. It is also said to have launched the Pontianak genre in Malaysia and Singapore, with rival Shaw producing its own Pontianak trilogy and several movies of the same genre were also made in Malaysia.
The installation of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as the sixteenth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia took place in a Malay Royal Ceremony at the Balairong Seri, Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, 30 July 2019 at 10 a.m. He was elected earlier by the Malay Rulers in the 251st Special Meeting of Conference of Rulers which was held at Istana Negara on 24 January 2019. The meeting was held upon the resignation of the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Muhammad V of Kelantan who stepped down from his post on 6 January 2019. Abdullah will hold the position for a period of 5 years beginning on 31 January 2019.
