Kilinochchi is the main town of Kilinochchi District,Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Kilinochchi is situated at the A9 road some 100 km (62 mi) south-east of Jaffna. It was the administrative center and de facto capital of the LTTE until 2 January 2009,when troops of the Sri Lankan Army recaptured the city.

President's Counsel is an eminent lawyer who is appointed by the President of Sri Lanka to be one of the "President's Counsel learned in the law". The term is also recognized as an honorific which replaced the practice of appointment of Queen's Counsel (QC) which ceased when Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972. It is equivalent to the appointment of Queen's Counsel in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms,such as New Zealand,and the equivalent of Senior Counsel in Commonwealth republics,such as South Africa,and derives the same privileges such as the privilege of sitting within the Bar of court.
Uthayan is a Tamil language Sri Lankan daily newspaper published by New Uthayan Publication (Private) Limited,part of the Uthayan Group of Newspapers. It was founded in 1985 and is published from Jaffna. Its sister newspapers is the Colombo based Sudar Oli. Uthayan was the only newspaper published from Jaffna which did not cease publication due to the civil war. The newspaper has been attacked several times,a number of its staff have been murdered by paramilitary groups and other forces,and it regularly receives threats.

General Rohan De Silva Daluwatte,WWV,RWP,RSP,VSV,USP was a senior officer of the Sri Lanka Army. He served as Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and Chief of the Defence Staff. Following his retirement from the army,he served as Sri Lankan Ambassador to Brazil among other appointments.

The civil war ended in May 2009 but,according to Reporters Without Borders,murders,physical attacks,kidnappings,threats and censorship continues and that senior government officials,including the defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa,are directly implicated.

Deshamanya Justice Victor Tennekoon QC was a Sri Lankan lawyer and jurist. He served as the 35th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka,as well as the 33rd Attorney General and 23rd Solicitor General. From 1979 to 1984 Tennekoon served as Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya.
