Yuwanjana Jawaharlal Wanasundera Wijayatilake PC was the 44th Attorney General of Sri Lanka and 43rd Solicitor General of Sri Lanka.

Wijayatilake became an attorney in 1979 and joined the legal department as an Acting State Counsel in 1980. [1] [2]

Having previously served as the deputy solicitor General and additional solicitor general. [1] He was appointed Solicitor General in 2012, succeeding Palitha Fernando. [3] In 2014 Wijayatilake was made Attorney General of Sri Lanka and served until January 2016 when he retired from the Attorney-General's Department. [2]

Wijayatilake is the son and nephew of the former Supreme Court Justices S. R. Wijayatilake and Raja Wanasundera respectively. [1] [4]

Tilak Marapana

Tilak Janaka Marapana PC is a Sri Lankan lawyer. He is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Assignments. He is a Member of Parliament appointed from the national list and had served as Minister of Law and Order, Prison Reforms from September 2015 to November 2015 and Minister of Defence (2001–2003) and Minister of Transport, Highways and Aviation (2002–2004). Jayantha Chandrasiri Jayasuriya PC is a lawyer who is the 47th and current Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. Jayasuriya was approved by the Constitutional Council on the 26 April 2019 and sworn in three days later on the 29 April, succeeding Chief Justice Nalin Perera. He previously served as the 45th Attorney General of Sri Lanka.

Dappula de LiveraPC is a Sri Lankan lawyer and the current Attorney General of Sri Lanka. He previously served as the Solicitor General of Sri Lanka from February 2018 and took over as acting attorney general from 29 April 2019 until his formal appointment in May 2019.

In 2015 a coup d'état was allegedly attempted in Sri Lanka by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa in order to remain in power after he had been voted out in the 2015 Sri Lankan presidential election. Rajapaksa, who was expected to easily win a third term in office lost to Maithripala Sirisena, a former ally and member of the Rajapaksa administration. Though ultimately there was a peaceful transition between governments, some government officials claim Rajapaksa made an attempt to deploy the army and police to stop the counting of votes when initial results showed he was heading for defeat.
