June Nicole Lapine (born June 22, 1991), [4] known by her online moniker Shoe0nHead, is an American commentary YouTuber and Twitter influencer. [5] [6] Her videos have ranged over the years, from political commentary to discussions on social issues, which tend to be political in nature. Lapine describes herself as a social democrat, [7] although she is often described as a populist. She initially rose to fame with her commentary on Gamergate. [8] [9]

Contents

Channel content and YouTube career

Lapine's videos often address social or political topics in an in-depth manner, but incorporate witty remarks and humor for entertainment value. She has been known to make provocative comments online, causing controversy, such as when she claimed she wanted to become "Andrew Tate but for women". [10] Many of her old videos previously focused on social issues such as gender views. Her videos have since expanded in focus, and became more concerned with political issues as well as cultural criticism.

Starting in 2020, Lapine began one of her more popular YouTube series, Hell World, in which she provides insight on and commentary around major headlines and online cultural events that have occurred since the last iteration of the series. The various episodes have included political criticisms of governments, corporations, and online discourse. [11]

Her most popular video is "questions" for men answered by woman, a response to a BuzzFeed video. As of June 2023, the video has over 10 million views. [12] Her most popular tweet, liked over 200,000 times, is a quote tweet spreading awareness of a protest led in Puerto Rico in which protestors carried a guillotine in response to news that Puerto Rican governor Wanda Vázquez Garced had been withholding several warehouses full of emergency aid from them. [13]

She has appeared on the podcast Krystal Kyle & Friends with Kyle Kulinski. [3]

Political beliefs and opinions

During some periods of her past, Lapine has described herself as being left-libertarian. She was previously affiliated with the Libertarian Republic, a right-libertarian online news outlet, and wrote articles for the paper in April 2015. [14] During the 2016 and 2020 elections, she was supportive of Senator Bernie Sanders. [3]

Lapine has denounced police brutality against racial minorities and made a video documenting police repression during the George Floyd protests, while previously having accused the Black Lives Matter movement of being "Black supremacy trash". [15] [9] She does not identify as a feminist and was previously part of the anti-feminist YouTube genre at its height of popularity, being many times critical of liberal feminism as well as radical feminism. [16] [9] She has jokingly described herself as a "bimbo populist". [10]

Notable events

Brooke Houts controversy

In August 2019, Lapine was a primary YouTuber in exposing fellow American YouTuber Brooke Houts, who accidentally uploaded raw footage to her YouTube channel in which she abused her new dog. Lapine was the first major influencer to raise awareness of the issue, resulting in attacks and criticism of Houts for her actions. [17] [18]

January 6 video

Lapine garnered attention following a video she made in which she interviewed Trump supporters at the Save America rally on January 6, 2021, immediately prior to the January 6 Capitol attack. In her video, she interviewed various attendees of the rally and asked them if they supported legislation that would criminalize burning the American flag, as declared constitutional in Texas v. Johnson (1989). Many of the interviewees concluded that it should not be a crime to do so. [6]

Williams (2008), a Supreme Court case regarding child pornography laws. [19] [20] Her tweet gained widespread media attention, garnering over 123 thousand likes. [21] [22] [23] [24] Lapine's tweets about the incident preceded the #cancelBalenciaga hashtag on Twitter. [25] Two days after Lapine's tweets were published, Balenciaga pulled the campaign and issued two apologies. [26] [9]

Personal life

Lapine has stated that she is of Italian and Irish heritage [27] and was raised Catholic. She has anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, [28] and trichotillomania.
