Shohidul Islam (born 5 January 1995) is a Bangladeshi cricketer who plays for Dhaka Metropolis. He made his international debut for the Bangladesh cricket team in November 2021. [1] In July 2022, he was suspended from playing in any form of cricket for ten months, backdated to 28 May 2022, due to a doping violation. [2] [3]

Domestic career

He made his Twenty20 (T20) debut on 21 November 2016 playing for Chittagong Vikings in the 2016–17 Bangladesh Premier League. [4] In November 2018, bowling for Central Zone in the 2018–19 Bangladesh Cricket League, he took his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. [5] He was the leading wicket-taker for Central Zone in the tournament, with eighteen dismissals in four matches. [6] In August 2019, he was one of 35 cricketers named in a training camp ahead of Bangladesh's 2019–20 season. [7] In November 2019, he was selected to play for the Khulna Tigers in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League. [8]

In March 2021, in the opening round of the 2020–21 National Cricket League, he scored his maiden century in first-class cricket, with 106 runs for Dhaka Metropolis. [9]

International career

In April 2021, he was named in Bangladesh's preliminary Test squad for their away series against Sri Lanka. [10] [11] In May 2021, Shohidul was named in Bangladesh's preliminary One Day International (ODI) squad for their home series against Sri Lanka. [12]

In November 2021, he was named in Bangladesh's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against Pakistan. [13] He made his T20I debut on 22 November 2021, for Bangladesh against Pakistan. [14] Later the same month, he was added to Bangladesh's Test squad, also for their series against Pakistan. [15] He was also named in Bangladesh's Test squad for their series against New Zealand. [16] In March 2022, he was named in Bangladesh's Test squad for their series against South Africa. [17] In May 2022, he was again named in Bangladesh's Test squad, this time for their series against the West Indies. [18]

Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, abbreviated as ZAC Stadium or ZACS and previously known as Bir Shrestha Shahid Ruhul Amin Stadium, is a cricket stadium located in the port city of Chattogram, in south-eastern Bangladesh. It became a Test cricket venue on 27 February 2006 when it hosted a Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It hosted two group matches of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. It has a seating capacity of around 20,000. The stadium was initially named after Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury on 17 June 2001 by the Bangladesh Awami League government. It was renamed after Ruhul Amin by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party government in October 2001. It was returned to its original name in 2009 of Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium after Bangladesh Awami League returned to power.

Tamim Iqbal Khan, more popularly known as Tamim Iqbal, is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He is the nephew of former Bangladesh skipper Akram Khan, the current chief selector of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Tamim is known for his aggressive batting style in the top order and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Bangladeshi batsmen of all time. Iqbal made history as he was the first Bangladeshi in the history of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup to score a century which he did with his 103 not out against Oman in the 2016 tournament. His 103 not out is the highest score made by a Bangladeshi at any T20 World Cup tournaments. Iqbal's 128 which he made against England in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy is also the highest score made by a Bangladeshi at any tournaments.

Mohammad Mahmudullah, also known as Riyad, is a Bangladeshi cricketer and former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team in T20I. He has played First-class and List A cricket for Dhaka Division and has represented Bangladesh in all forms of the game. An all-rounder, he is a lower or middle-order batsman as well as an off spin bowler. He has almost 10,000 runs and 150+ wickets. He is prominent for his ability to finish a close limited over game. He is the first Bangladeshi to score a World Cup hundred. Like Sanath Jayasuriya, Kevin Pietersen, Shoaib Malik, Steve Smith and many more, Mahmudullah started his career as a bowler and then converted into a batsman who could bowl handy off-breaks.

Mohammad Nayeem Hasan is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Chittagong Division in the 2016–17 National Cricket League on 10 October 2015. In the process, he became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul on debut in Tests, at the age of 17 years and 356 days.

He made his first-class debut on 10 October 2019, for Sylhet Division in the 2019–20 National Cricket League. He made his Twenty20 debut on 28 November 2020, for Minister Group Rajshahi in the 2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup. He was selected by the Chattogram Challengers for the 2022 Bangladesh Premier League.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured Bangladesh in May 2021 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches. All of the matches took place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Originally, the tour was scheduled to take place in December 2020. The Sri Lankan cricket team arrived in Bangladesh on 16 May 2021, following their two-match Test series in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured Bangladesh in May 2022 to play two Test matches. The Test series formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship. The fixtures for the tour were confirmed in March 2022. In June 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) relaxed its rules on using neutral match officials, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In April 2022, the ICC confirmed that neutral umpires would return to Test match cricket, with Richard Kettleborough from England and Joel Wilson of the West Indies standing in the first and second Tests respectively.
