Karnataka, a state in South India has a well-developed transport system. The Wodeyar Superfast Express is a Superfast Express train running between K. S. R Bengaluru and Mysuru in India. It covers a distance of 139 km in 2.5 hours with two stops, one at Mandya and another at a suburb in Bengaluru, Kengeri. South Western Railway launched an information and entertainment system, "Infotainment on Wheels", on the Wodeyar Express. The new infotainment system allows commuters on board to get real-time information on the arrival and departure of trains and view daily news, weather and entertainment.. It is the fastest train between Mysuru and Bangalore and vice versa.

The KSR Bengaluru-Hassan section, part of the Bengaluru division of South Western Railway Zone, connects the cities of Bengaluru and Hassan. This line was the dream project of Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda, open to the general public in March 2017. The inaugural train was the 22679 Yeshwantpur-Hassan Intercity Express. This direct line connects the two cities, forming a straight rail link from Bengaluru to Mangaluru with no reversals. Previously, there were two routes to Mangaluru via Hassan - one via Ramanagara-Mysuru-Holenarasipura, taking 12 hours with two reversals and another via Tumakuru-Arsikere, taking 10.5-11 hours with one reversal. This direct route via Yediyur, with no reversals, is significantly shorter and saves time, taking only 9 hours between the two cities.

The Bangalore–Arsikere–Hubli line is a major railway line in the Indian state of Karnataka connecting state capital Bangalore with city of Hubballi in north-central Karnataka. It traverses across Karnataka and links several cities of Karnataka, including Tumakuru, Kadur, Davanagere, Haveri and Hubballi. Currently, 29 pairs of trains operate in this route, out of which 8 are daily services. Apart from this, this route also links Karnataka with other states, such as Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan. This route is also a major feeder line for iron ore, coal and steel hauling freight trains originating from Ballari district towards the Ports of Goa and Mangaluru.
Ballari Junction railway station, formerly Bellary Junction railway station is a main railway station in Ballari district, Karnataka. It serves Ballari. This is one of the oldest railway stations in India, and possibly the second in karnataka, built by the British Raj more than 150 years ago. The foundation stone for Ballari Junction was laid in 1869. Mahatma Gandhi visited Ballari and spent about eight hours at the railway station here on 1 October 1921.

Gadag Junction railway station is a NSG-4 Category railway station under South Western Railway in Gadag district, Karnataka. It serves Gadag-Betageri. The station consists of three platforms. The station lies on Guntakal–Vasco da Gama section HDN-7A and also connects the Gadag–Hotgi railway line. The Gadag–Hotgi railway line was converted from metre gauge to broad gauge in December 2008.
