Simi Valley High School (SVHS) is a public high school in Simi Valley, California. The school is part of the Simi Valley Unified School District and is located on the east side of the city.

History

Simi Valley High School was established in 1920 as the first high school in Simi Valley.

The campus has undergone several configurations over the years to become the 50.4-acre (204,000 m2) campus it is today. The current campus was built in three phases during the 1960s. Based on the physical concept of "schools-within-a-school," Simi Valley High School was constructed with three instructional quads, each having an administrative area. The original design also included one main administration building. Currently, the school is configured with five major instructional areas, a multipurpose building, a gym and dressing room facilities, a library, a counseling facility, an administration building, a new area of portable classrooms, a stadium and athletic fields, a new senior patio, and a band room with all different types of instruments. Academics

In the annual public high school rankings from U.S. News & World Report , Simi Valley High School was ranked in 2021 as the 17th best high school in the Oxnard-Ventura metropolitan area, with an overall score of 67.65 out of 100. [3] That makes it the 3rd best high school in the Simi Valley Unified School District, behind Santa Susana High School and Royal High School. [5]

Athletics

Simi Valley High School's athletic teams are nicknamed the Pioneers, and the school's mascot is Herman, or Hermie, the Pioneer, established around 1940. The school's colors are maroon and gold; originally, the colors were purple and silver but these were changed in the mid-1920s. The school is a charter member of the Coastal Canyon League (CCL), a conference within the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) that was established in 2014. SVHS competes in the CCL for all sports except football and in the Marmonte Football Association for football. [10] Prior to 2014, the school was a long-time member of the Marmonte League. Simi Valley's primary rival is Royal High School on the west side of the city. [11]

He is the younger brother of former pitcher Jeff Weaver.

Adolfo Camarillo High School (ACHS) is a public high school in Camarillo, California established 1956. The school is part of the Oxnard Union High School District and serves students in grades 9–12 in east Camarillo, Somis, and the Santa Rosa Valley. ACHS is named for Adolfo Camarillo, a prominent Californio ranchero and founder of the city which bears his name; he donated part of Rancho Calleguas for the high school.

Simi Valley is 40 miles (65 km) from Downtown Los Angeles, making it part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The city borders Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, and the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles. As of the 2020 U.S. Census the population was 126,356, up from 124,243 in 2010. The city of Simi Valley is surrounded by the Santa Susana Mountains and the Simi Hills, west of the San Fernando Valley, and northeast of the Conejo Valley. The Pacific View League (PVL) was a high school athletic conference in California affiliated with the CIF Southern Section. The league was formed in 1998, pulling Camarillo and Channel Islands high schools from the Marmonte League to join Hueneme, Oxnard, and Rio Mesa highs from the Channel League. Pacifica High School joined the league when it opened its doors in 2001.

The Coastal Canyon League (CCL) is a high school athletic conference that is affiliated with the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS). The league was established in 2014 during the CIF-SS Northern Area's biennial releaguing process, drawing several members from the Marmonte League as well as Camarillo and Oak Park high schools. All members are located in Ventura County.

Grace Brethren Jr./Sr. High School (GBHS) is a co-educational, college-preparatory Christian school in Simi Valley, California serving grades 7–12. The school is one of three campuses in Simi Valley comprising the Grace Brethren Schools, the others being an elementary school and a preschool.
