The medal may be awarded to NSmen who have served 2 years of National Service Full-time (NSF) and at least 3 high-key In-Camp Training (ICT) served satisfactorily as NSmen. The criteria are based on a reservist's good attitude towards National Service, in-camp training competency performance and meaningful contributions to the SAF.

Reservist Member of a military reserve force

A reservist is a person who is a member of a military reserve force. They are otherwise civilians, and in peacetime have careers outside the military. Reservists usually go for training on an annual basis to refresh their skills. This person is usually a former active-duty member of the armed forces, and they remain a reservist either voluntarily, or by obligation. In some countries such as Israel, Norway, Finland, Singapore, and Switzerland, reservists are conscripted soldiers who are called up for training and service when necessary.

National Service (NS) is a term that describes the national policy in Singapore that requires all male Singaporean citizens and second-generation permanent residents to serve a period of compulsory service in the uniformed services when they reach the age of majority, although women may also volunteer. It was first instituted in 1967 shortly after its independence to help build Singapore's military forces and guarantee its continued sovereignty, and has since been expanded to involve the police and civil defence force as well. The Singapore Armed Forces Long Service and Good ConductMedal is a decoration awarded to a member of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) who has completed 10 years of continuous service. For NSmen, reservists qualify for the equivalent Singapore Armed Forces National Service Medal.

The Singapore Armed Forces National Service Medal is an award conferred on a National Serviceman (NSman) of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) who has completed an equivalent 10 years of active service. This is achieved by meaningfully and satisfactorily completed 90% of the National Service Training System (NSTS) - 6 High-Key In-Camp Trainings and 3 Low-Key In-Camp Trainings.

Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct (Military) Award

The Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct (Military) is a medal awarded to regular members of the armed forces. It was instituted by King George V in 1930 and replaced the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal as well as the Permanent Forces of the Empire Beyond the Seas Medal. The medal was originally awarded to Regular Army warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and men of the UK Armed Forces. It also had a number of territorial versions for the Permanent Forces of the British Dominions. The eligibility criteria were relaxed in 1947 to also allow the award of the medal to officers who had served a minimum period in the ranks before being commissioned. Since 2016, the eligibility was widened to include officers who had never served in the ranks, and so the medal can now be awarded to all regular members of the British Army who meet the required length of service.

Winston Choo Wee Leong is a Singaporean diplomat, civil servant and former general. He was the first Chief of Defence Force of the Singapore Armed Forces from 1974–1992 and held the rank of Lieutenant-General.

Individual physical proficiency test

The Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) is a standard physical fitness test used by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to test the basic components of physical fitness and motor skills of their members. The IPPT is applicable to all eligible persons with National Service (NS) liability, including Full-Time National Servicemen (NSFs), Operationally-Ready National Servicemen, and regulars. The test presently consists of three stations: sit-up, push-up, and 2.4 kilometres run. Based on their age, sex and vocation, persons taking the IPPT are required to meet certain standards under the IPPT Standards and Scoring System in order to pass the test. As of October 2013, about 116,000 people take the IPPT every year. Personnel who are classified in PES E are exempt from participating in this test.

Ravinder Singh s/o Harchand Singh is a Singaporean former army general and the current President of ST Kinetics. He served as the Chief of the Singapore Army from 2011–2014 and held the rank of Major-General.

Perry Lim Singaporean army general

Perry Lim Cheng Yeow is a former Singaporean army general and Chief of Defence Force of the Singapore Armed Forces. He held the rank of Lieutenant-General. Lim decided to retire from the SAF on 23 March 2018 to pursue his personal endeavors, and was succeeded by Melvyn Ong as the new Chief of Defence Force.

SAF Volunteer Corps Military unit

The Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) is a uniformed volunteer auxiliary branch of the Singapore Armed Forces. First established in 2014, it allows Singaporean women, first generation permanent residents and naturalised citizens, all of whom would otherwise not be subject to an obligation to serve national service, to contribute their part towards Singapore's defence. It also aims to strengthen support for national service by understanding the duties of national servicemen.

Melvyn Ong Singaporean military officer

Melvyn Ong Su Kiat is a Singapore army general and the current Chief of Defence Force of the Singapore Armed Forces as of 23 March 2018. Before promotion to CDF, he was the Chief of the Singapore Army until 21 March 2018. He holds the rank of Lieutenant-General.
