The Singapore Selection XI is a football team made up of Singapore internationals and selected players from the Singapore Premier League. The team mainly plays in exhibition matches and non-FIFA 'A' international matches.
Singapore Selection XI was created to form one of the best players in Singapore back in the days until 1996 where Football Association of Singapore (FAS), created Singapore first professional league known as the S.League which then the team consists of players playing in the league itself. Since 2001, Singapore Selection XI has participated in the Sultan of Selangor's Cup to strengthen the ties between two rival teams, Selangor FA and Singapore FA and to rekindle their rivalry after Singapore pulled out of the Malaysian League in 1994. The rivalry between two teams are very intense because of their status as the two most successful teams in Malaysian football history and matches between the two sides has even been dubbed as the Malayan El'Clasico back in 1920s until the late 1990s.
From 2012 until 2014, Singapore Selection XI was only restricted using up to maximum four LionsXII players which was at the time competing in the Malaysia Super League.
In 2013, the Singapore Selection XI, coached by V. Sundramoorthy played against Atlético Madrid in the Peter Lim Charity Cup and they lost 0–2. [1] In 2014, the team played against Juventus at the new National Stadium, Singapore and lost 0–5. [2] The team also participated in the Barclays Asia Trophy in July 2015. [3]
In 2024, after a seven years hiatus, Singapore Selection XI was then reformed to take on Selangor at the iconic Merdeka Stadium on 17 August 2024. Balestier Khalsa head coach, Peter de Roo was appointed by FAS as the head coach for the team. de Roo takes on 7 of his club players to the team and also reuniting with 3 of his former players, Ho Wai Loon, Kyoga Nakamura and Daniel Goh bringing up the tally to 10 players he is familiarised with, while Lion City Sailors has refused to released their players due to the club tight fixtures. Faris Ramli appeared four times in the Sultan of Selangor Cup becoming the first player to achieved this feat.

The following 20 players were called up for the 2024 Sultan of Selangor Cup. [4] Alen Kozar, Darren Teh, Ryoya Taniguchi and Nur Adam Abdullah have been called up to the squad after Shah Shahiran, Kyoga Nakamura, Shuya Yamashita, Glenn Kweh and Harith Kanadi suffered an injury during Gameweek 12 of the Singapore Premier League fixtures.

The Singapore national football team represents Singapore in the senior men's international football. It is organised by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), the governing body of football in Singapore, which is affiliated with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the regional ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The team's colours are red and white. Singapore are colloquially known as "The Lions", an animal of prominent symbolic nature to the country. Singapore has one of the oldest national teams in Asia, with the FAS being the oldest football association in the continent itself.

Thambiah "Terry" Pathmanathan is a former Singapore international footballer who played as a defender. He played for Singapore and Pahang in the Malaysia Cup. Selangor Football Club is a professional football club based in the city of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The club currently competes in the Malaysia Super League, the top tier of Malaysian football. The club is nicknamed the Red Giants. Officially founded in 1936 by the Football Association of Selangor (FAS), the association built its football development as a result of a merger with the Selangor Association Football League and forming the professional football team known as Selangor. On 2 October 2020, the club officially made its privatization under a new entity as Selangor Football Club after it was officially approved by the Football Association of Malaysia on 29 September 2020. The club currently plays its home games at the Petaling Jaya Stadium after the club's original home ground, the Shah Alam Stadium, was closed to undergo major renovation and rebuilding work which was prolonged for an extended period of time.

The Sultan of Selangor's Cup is an annual friendly football competition organized by the Football Association of Selangor, contested between two rival teams, Selangor FA and Singapore FA. The competition's official name was originally the Regent of Selangor's Cup, but it was renamed the Sultan of Selangor's Cup in 2003. The competition usually features two matches: Selangor Veterans versus Singapore Veterans and Selangor Selection versus Singapore Selection.
The 2022 Singapore Premier League was the 5th season of the Singapore Premier League, the top-flight Singaporean professional league for association football clubs, since its rebranding in 2018. The champions of the 2022 Singapore Premier League should have qualified for the AFC Champions League. The season began in March and ended on 15 October.
