Sivaraman Cheriyanad was a Malayalam-language writer from Kerala, India. He wrote short stories, novels and children's literature, besides contributing to scholarly literature including studies on the works of Parappurath and Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. He received the Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award and A. P. Kalakkad Award. He was also a school teacher and a recipient of the National Teachers Award.
Sivaraman was born on 13 December 1941 in Cheriyanad near Chengannur in the present-day Alleppey district of Kerala. [1] He started his career as an upper primary school teacher. He was a teacher in Tamil Nadu, Malabar and Alleppey, and retired from Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mavelikkara. [2] He received the National Teachers Award in 1989. [1] The same year, he received the Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award for the year 1988 for his short story collection Peruchazhikalude Maalam. [3] He received a scholarship from the Kerala Sahitya Akademi in 1990-91 for the study of the works of the writer Parappurath. [4] He received the A. P. Kalakkad Award in 2009. [5] He was the president of Sahithya Pravarthaka Co-operative Society for nine years. [6] He also served as the vice president of A. R. Raja Raja Varma Memorial Committee, office-bearer of Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham, [7] and an executive member of the publication wing of Kerala Sahitya Akademi. The Sivaraman Cheriyanad Award, instituted in his memory in 2023, is given annually to the best short story collection in Malayalam. The inaugural award was received by T. P. Venugopalan for his work Thunnalkkaran. [8]

Kizhakkepainummoodu Easo Mathai, better known by his pen name Parappurath (1924–1981), was an Indian novelist, short story writer and screenwriter who wrote in the Malayalam language. His body of work comprises 20 novels, 14 short story anthologies and 15 screenplays. He was a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story (1966), Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel (1968) and Kerala State Film Award for Best Story, amongst other honours.

Desamangalam Ramakrishnan is a Malayalam–language poet, translator, critic and teacher. He was born in 1948 in Desamangalam in Thalapilly taluk, Trichur district. He obtained his M.A. degree in Malayalam from Pattambi Sanskrit College. Subsequently, he joined the Calicut University and researched on Malayalam poetry under K. N. Ezhuthachan. He was awarded a fellowship from the Central Ministry of Culture. He worked as a lecturer at various government colleges from 1975 to 1989. He was a professor of Malayalam literature at the University of Kerala till his retirement in 2008. He then served as Emeritus Fellow of U. G. C. in Calicut University (2009-2011).

Erumeli Parameswaran Pillai was a Malayalam-language writer, teacher, scholar, and literary critic from Kerala, India. He wrote over forty books, including five novels, four collections of stories, 11 scholarly works, and a few one-act plays and children's literature. He is also known for the work Malayala Sahityam Kalaghattangaliloode, a comprehensive history of Malayalam literature. He received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions in 2009.
E. P. Sreekumar is an Indian short story writer and novelist in Malayalam. He received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2010 for his collection Parasya Sareeram. He is also a recipient of Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award, C. V. Sreeraman Award and Ulloor Award.
T. N. Prakash was an Indian Malayalam-language writer from Kannur, Kerala. He published over 40 works. Besides short stories and novels, he also authored plays, radio dramas, children's literature, autobiographies, and travelogues. His short story collection Thaapam received the prestigious Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2005. He also received Senior Fellowship from the Central Ministry of Culture and was a member of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and the Advisory Committee of the Sahitya Akademi.
This year's Abu Dhabi Sakti awards were given away to Alintara G. Krishna Pillai for his book 'Anachilandikal' (children's literature), M. Kuttikrishnan for 'Vailoppilli Kavithakal' (a critical study), Sivaraman Cheriyanad for 'Peruchazhikalute Malam' (short stories), Unnikrishnan Kanhirathanam for 'Agnipanchakam', K. P. Mohammed for 'Ottakangalkkoru Geetham' and Abraham for 'Villi' all poetry
