Band history

Establishment

Sloppy Seconds was formed in 1984 by a group of friends from Indianapolis, Indiana. [1] The band spent its first three years writing songs and honing its craft, releasing its first record, a four-song EP called The First Seven Inches, in 1987. [1]

Following the release of the first EP, the band went into the studio on its own, assisted by producer Paul Mahern, without a record label deal. [1] Knowing from an early date that they were not a prolific recording band, the band sought to make an impact with its first full-length release, tabbing the record Destroyed as a play on Destroyer, a 1976 platinum album by stadium rockers KISS. [1] In search of a home, the band sent out a demo tape including rough mixes of the first four songs completed for the project, with Toxic Shock Records ultimately picking up the project. [1] This debut album was finally released in 1989, featuring parody artwork by Mike Kreffel, a fan of the band. [1]

A series of three singles followed for fans of the 7-inch vinyl format, featuring popular album tracks such as the anthemic "I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual" and their controversial paean to underaged porn queen Traci Lords, "Come Back Traci."[ citation needed ]

Band name

Their name derives from the slang term "sloppy seconds", describing the act in which a man has intercourse with another person who already has received another man's semen in the relevant orifice.[ citation needed ]

Reunion

In January 2008, the band announced they had signed to Kid Tested Records, owned by Dave Parasite of the Parasites. [2] That year, they released Endless Bummer, their first full-length in ten years. [3] In June and July 2008, the band promoted the album with a tour of the United States, which included an appearance at Insubordination Fest. [4]

Sloppy Seconds' first studio album, Destroyed, was reissued on Kid Tested records in 2010. [5] They went on a short East Coast tour in May and June 2010. [6]

Personnel

Former members include guitarist and founding member Danny "Roadkill" Thompson, alias "Dr. Roadkill", who left the band in 1993.[ citation needed ]

The Bhopal Stiffs was an American hardcore punk band formed in Chicago in 1985 by singers/guitarists Larry Damore and Vince Marine, bassist Steve Saylors, and drummer Dave Schleitwiler. The band name is a reference to an ecological disaster which took place in Bhopal, India in 1984. Honing a melodic, mid-tempo approach very much in tune with the prevailing Windy City punk sound of the period, the group gigged steadily, in time becoming the de facto house band at the Chicago bar Exit. In 1987, the Bhopal Stiffs recorded a ten-song demo tape, with the single "Not Just My Head" following on the Dazit label later that year and played gigs in Indiana, Wisconsin, St Louis and many shows in Chicago. Marine exited the lineup in early 1988, with guitarist Ron Lowe stepping in and Larry Damore assuming sole vocal duties; the reconfigured group recorded the six-song E.P.A. record, issued on the Roadkill label. After contributing "Too Much Pain" to the There's a Fungus Among Us compilation, the Bhopal Stiffs disbanded in 1989; Larry Damore and Steve Saylors later formed Pegboy with former Naked Raygun guitarist John Haggerty, while Dave Schleitwiler went on to play drums for local groups Buzzmuscle and The Indicators, amongst others, and Ron Lowe became a recording engineer at the Chicago Recording Company. Harmless Records later compiled the Stiffs' complete recorded output on the CD 1985-1989. The band played reunion shows in 2001 and 2010.

Kill the Musicians 1995 compilation album by Screeching Weasel

Kill the Musicians is a compilation album released in 1995 which was meant to serve as a "cleaning up" of loose ends after Screeching Weasel's breakup in 1994. The compilation collects demos, B-sides, vinyl-only EPs, and other various odds and ends the band had accumulated in their career from 1989 to 1994. It came on the heels of 1994's How to Make Enemies and Irritate People, which itself was a collection of the final songs the band had written prior to splitting up. The band would soon reform in 1996 and remain together again until 2000, when they disbanded again. This collection was out of print for a short period until it was remastered and re-released by Asian Man Records in 2005. The original album contained an in-depth essay written by Ben Weasel covering the history of the band. This was later omitted from the re-issue. In 2010, Recess Records had intentions to release a double LP vinyl reissue, however production was aborted and only a small amount of test pressings exist.
