The song was released as 2Pac's comeback single after his release from prison in 1995 and was his first single as the newest artist of Death Row Records. The original version is featured on the UK version of his fourth album, All Eyez on Me (1996), and is one of 2Pac's most widely known and most successful singles. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and also topped the charts of Italy, New Zealand, and Sweden. The song was posthumously nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997.

Lyrically, it is about a failing relationship and the attempt made to better the significant other or save people from themselves. "My Favourite Game" achieved international success, reaching number one in Greece, number three in Sweden and number 14 in the UK. It also charted within the top 40 in several European countries and New Zealand. While it failed to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 and its radio counterpart, it peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Enjoying success in Europe, the song was a top 10 hit in Belgium (9) and the Netherlands (4), and a top 20 hit in Italy (14) and Norway (12). On the Eurochart Hot 100, "Come Take My Hand" peaked at number 47 in October 1995. Outside Europe, it peaked at number-one in Israel. In 2015, the song was released in the Netherlands in a new remix by The Viper.
