Small Planet Airlines s.r.l. , also known as Small Planet Airlines Italia, was [2] an Italian charter airline with its headquarters in Fiumicino, Rome and bases at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (Rome) and Il Caravaggio International Airport. It began as a subsidiary of the also now defunct Small Planet Airlines from Lithuania. On 17 January 2014 the airline ceased all operations. [2]

History

The airline is no longer related with its founder, Small Planet Airlines from Lithuania anymore as it was sold to Aeroservizi and Avia Solutions Group in April 2013. The company got its license revoked as of 17 January 2014 stating financial difficulties. It ceased all flights accordingly. [2]

The airline operated some charter flights for the Italian flag carrier Alitalia, and scheduled and charter flights for the Italian virtual airline Flyplanet.

Air One S.p.A. was an Italian low-cost airline which operated as Air One "Smart Carrier". It operated as Alitalia's low-cost subsidiary with operating bases located in Catania, Palermo, Pisa, Venice and Verona; while Tirana was a focus city. "Air One" is a portmanteau of the English meaning Air One and the Italian word 'airone', pronounced IPA [ai'rone], meaning heron, which was also the airline's callsign.

Blue Air was a Romanian low-cost airline headquartered in Bucharest, with its former hub at Henri Coandă International Airport. It was the largest Romanian airline by scheduled passengers flown. In 2017, Blue Air carried over 5 million passengers, a 40% increase over the 3.6 million passengers flown the previous year. Blue Panorama Airlines S.p.A. was an Italian airline headquartered in Fiumicino operating scheduled and charter flights mostly to domestic and international leisure destinations. As of late 2021, the airline was in the process to change its brand name to Luke Air also retiring their former Blu-express brand used for domestic and short-haul destinations. Additional business charter flights used to be operated under the name Executive Blue. As of late October 2021, it suspended all operations until further notice and was subsequently liquidated in late 2022.

Poste Air Cargo, named Mistral Air until 30 September 2019, is an Italian cargo and former passenger airline headquartered in Rome and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Poste italiane. Its hubs are Brescia Airport and Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Rome. The airline used to serve domestic scheduled and international charter passenger services which it ceased in mid 2018 while focusing on cargo operations since then.

Small Planet Airlines was a Lithuanian leisure airline based at Vilnius Airport with further bases throughout Europe. It was the subsidiary of the Small Planet Group which also owned sister companies in Cambodia, Germany, Italy, and Poland, all of which are also now defunct.

Alitalia - Società Aerea Italiana S.p.A., operating as Alitalia, was an Italian airline which was once the flag carrier and largest airline of Italy. The company had its head office in Fiumicino, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. The airline was owned by the Government of Italy as a nationalized business from its founding in 1946 until it was privatized in 2009. However, it struggled with profitability whilst operating as a private company, including failed negotiations to sell to other private parties. The airline entered extraordinary administration in 2017 following many years of financial losses. The Italian government eventually took back ownership of the airline in March 2020.
