EGO Airways S.p.A. was [4] [5] a privately-owned Italian airline start-up headquartered in Milan, Lombardy. The airline operated from its base at Parma Airport. EGO Airways suspended all activities after the lessor of their fleet decide to terminate the contract with the company after contractual disputes. [2] In late 2022, the liquidation of the airline was announced. [5]

History

EGO currently planned to fly to domestic destinations with a base at Milan Malpensa Airport. [6] On 19 November 2020, EGO received the air operator's certificate (AOC) by the Italian CAA (ENAC) [7] and operated its first commercial flight on 2 December 2020, with a charter flight from Naples to Amsterdam. [8] After obtaining the AOC, schedule operations were due to start in the summer season 2021. [9]

Since December 2020, the airline had been focused on charter flights. It signed a contract with SSC Napoli football club in order to transport the team in away matches with the aircraft being based at Naples International Airport. [10]

In December 2021 the company had to return its fleet to German Airways due to conflicts between the two companies about the leasing contract, this resulted in a suspension of all flights operated by EGO Airways due to a lack of aircraft. [2] Shortly after, EGO Airways’ operating permit was suspended by the ENAC on 4 January 2022. [11] In December 2022, it has been announced that the airline will be liquidated. [5]

Destinations

EGO Airways planned on flying to 11 destinations when they were supposed to launch scheduled services in early 2021. [12] [13] [14] However, this did not materialize.

It used to have bases at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome and Malpensa Airport in Milan. C.A.I. First was dissolved and merged into Alitalia mainline by February 2015.

Air Italy S.p.A., operating as Air Italy was an Italian airline, headquartered in Milan. Using wet-leased aircraft from Boeing, it operated from 2005 to 2018, later as the main airline of Air Italy Group together with two other subsidiaries, Air Italy Egypt and Air Italy Polska, which both later ceased operation. After 2011, Air Italy was a fully integrated subsidiary of Meridiana, then known as Meridiana fly, and continued its operation under the Meridiana Brand but keeping its own AOC. iAero Airways Airline of the United States

iAero Airways, previously named Swift Air, was an American charter airline based in Greensboro, North Carolina with its main hub at Miami International Airport. The airline announced that it would cease all operations on April 6, 2024 after failed restructuring efforts during bankruptcy proceedings.

Alitalia - Società Aerea Italiana S.p.A., operating as Alitalia, was an Italian airline which was once the flag carrier and largest airline of Italy. The company had its head office in Fiumicino, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. The airline was owned by the Government of Italy as a nationalized business from its founding in 1946 until it was privatized in 2009. However, it struggled with profitability whilst operating as a private company, including failed negotiations to sell to other private parties. The airline entered extraordinary administration in 2017 following many years of financial losses. The Italian government eventually took back ownership of the airline in March 2020.
