Soccer Slammers is a soccer video game developed and published by Atooi. It was released in June 2018 for the Nintendo Switch prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Gameplay

The game is an arcade-styled soccer video game; unlike the FIFA series of soccer video games, which focus on realism in gameplay and presentation, Soccer Slam features exaggerated and simplified gameplay, similar to NBA Jam's take on basketball. [1] [2] The game features two versus two gameplay with short, pixelated fictional characters in the art style of Minecraft . [3] [4] The game features local multiplayer with up to four players. [5]

Development

The game was first announced in late January 2018. [3] The game is being developed by Atooi, the company formed by Jools Watsham after the dissolution of his prior co-founded company - Renegade Kid. [1] [6] Watsham described the game as being heavily influenced from NBA Jam . [7] The game made its first appearance at Game Developers Conference in March 2018. [8] The game was initially planned to have video capturing features at releases, but the feature was delayed into plans for a future free downloadable content (DLC) pack after release, due to technical problems outside of the developer's control. [9] The game is scheduled for release prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in July. [4] The game was submitted to Nintendo for approval for release on the Nintendo Switch eShop in May 2018.

Reception

Pocket Gamer criticized the game's simplicity, randomness, and lack of things to do in the game, comparing it unfavorably to the type of soccer games that had been made for the Game Gear. [10]

The Nintendo Switch is a video game console developed by Nintendo and released worldwide in most regions on March 3, 2017. The console itself is a tablet that can either be docked for home console use or used as a portable device, making it a hybrid console. NBA 2K18 is a 2017 basketball simulation video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K. It is the 19th installment in the NBA 2K franchise, the successor to NBA 2K17, and the predecessor to NBA 2K19. Mario & Luigi is a series of role-playing video games developed by AlphaDream and published by Nintendo for the latter's various video game handheld consoles. The series is a spin-off from Nintendo's trademark Super Mario series, and stars the titular characters Mario and Luigi. The games' stories follow the two on a quest to defeat an antagonist, primarily Bowser. It began in 2003 on the Game Boy Advance with Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, with the latest original installment being Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam in 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS. Two other titles in the series, including Superstar Saga, had an additional remake for the Nintendo 3DS.
