Sofyan Franyata Hariyanto (or more commonly known as S. F. Hariyanto) (born 30 April 1965) is an Indonesian bureaucrat who served as the Acting Governor of Riau from 29 February 2024 to 15 August 2024,and as the Deputy Governor of Riau since 20 February 2025. He previously served as the Secretary of the Provincial Government of Riau from 2021 to 2024.
Sofyan was born in Pekanbaru on 30 April 1965. He attended SD Negeri Teladan Pekanbaru in 1976 and continued his studies at SMPN 5 Pekanbaru in 1982. After graduating from SMAN 1 Pekanbaru in 1983,he pursued a Diploma 3 at the Indonesian Institute of Public Administration in 1988. He continued his education with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at Islamic University of Riau in 1992,and a master's degree in Civil Engineering at Islamic University of Indonesia in 2006. He began his career as a temporary employee from 1983 to 1987,before being appointed as a civil servant (PNS) on 1 November 1987. [2] In 2005,he served as the Head of the Road Infrastructure Development Section in the Sub-Department of Road Infrastructure in the Department of Housing and Regional Infrastructure in Riau. He then continued to serve as the Head of the Road Infrastructure Sub-Department and the Head of the Laboratory of the same department in 2008. From 2008 to 2010,he was the Head of the Road Building Division at the Public Works Department of Riau Province,and was subsequently appointed as the Head of the Public Works Department of Riau Province from 2010 to 2014. Later,he became the Expert Staff to the Governor for Infrastructure from 2014 to 2015 and the Head of the Regional Revenue Department of Riau. In 2016,he moved to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) as the Executive Officer for the Planning,Budgeting,and International Cooperation Bureau. [3]
From 2017 to 2018,he served as a Policy Reviewer in the Subsection for Infrastructure Financing Preparation,and from 2018 to 2021,he held various positions in the Ministry of Public Works and Housing's Inspectorate General,ranging from Inspector II to Inspector VI. In 2021,he became the Staff of the Inspectorate VI. [3] On 18 March 2021,he was appointed Secretary of the Provincial Government of Riau,and later on 29 February 2024,he was sworn in as Acting Governor of Riau after serving as the Acting Governor for nine days. On 28 August 2024,Abdul Wahid and Sofyan Franyata Hariyanto registered as candidates in the 2024 Riau gubernatorial election,supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P),the National Awakening Party (PKB),and the NasDem Party. [4]
The election was held on 27 November 2024 as part of the nationwide simultaneous local elections. In the official results,the pair secured 1,224,193 votes (44.31% of the valid votes) and were elected as Governor and Deputy Governor of Riau. [5]
The family of Sofyan Franyata Hariyanto attracted public attention during his tenure as Regional Secretary (Sekretaris Daerah) of Riau Province. Media reports and social media posts attributed to accounts associated with his wife and daughter showed images of high-end branded items,such as luxury footwear and handbags,sparking public debate about the lifestyle of relatives of a senior public official. The Instagram account in question was later reported as deleted or no longer accessible. [6]
In response to the public scrutiny,Hariyanto disputed some of the claims and stated that certain videos and posts circulating online had been recorded many years earlier and did not reflect current circumstances. [7]
