Makafan Solomon Alabi (born March 21, 1988) is a Nigerian former professional basketball player. Raised in Zaria, Nigeria, he moved to the United States at the age of 17 to attend Montverde Academy. Alabi played college basketball for the Florida State Seminoles where he was a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Defensive team selection in both his freshman and sophomore years. He was selected by the Dallas Mavericks as the 50th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft and played two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Toronto Raptors. Alabi played one season in the NBA Development League and finished his career overseas with stints in Greece, Taiwan, the Philippines and Japan.
Alabi grew up in Zaria, Kaduna state of Nigeria before moving to Clermont, Florida at the age of 17. He played soccer before taking up basketball at age 15. [1]
He attended high school at Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida where he was coached by Kevin Sutton. [2] Alabi was an all-state performer and helped lead Montverde Academy to a perfect 30–0 record during his senior season. [1] He attended the same high school as NBA player Luc Mbah a Moute. Alabi started for the Nigerian Junior National Team at the 2007 Nike All-American camp. He also helped Nigeria qualify for the 2007 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. He was selected for the 2007 Nike Hoop Summit, representing the World Select Team, where he led all players in blocked shots. [3]
After breaking his leg 10 games into his freshman year, Alabi had to take a medical redshirt. As a redshirt freshman, he earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors by averaging 8.4 points per game and leading the ACC in blocks with 2.1 per game. For his great shot-blocking ability, he was named to the ACC All-Defensive team in 2008–2009. [1]
As a redshirt sophomore, Alabi ranked 26th in the nation in blocked shots with an average of 2.39 while increasing his scoring average to 11.7 points per game. [4] On April 23, 2010, he declared himself eligible for the 2010 NBA draft. [5]
On June 24, 2010, Alabi was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the 50th pick, and traded to the Toronto Raptors for cash considerations. [6]
On July 8, 2010, he signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors. [7] The Raptors assigned him to the Erie BayHawks on November 15, 2010. [8] He was recalled on December 9, 2010, [9] sent back to Erie on January 6, 2011, [10] and recalled once again by the Raptors on January 14, 2011. [11] The Raptors assigned him to the BayHawks for a third time on March 9, 2011. [12] Afterwards, Alabi was recalled back up to Toronto for a third time on April 5, 2011. [13]
On January 4, 2012, Alabi was assigned to the Bakersfield Jam of the D-League. [14] He was recalled on January 22, 2012. [15] On April 26, 2012, against the New Jersey Nets, Alabi recorded career highs of 11 points, 19 rebounds and 3 blocks in 40 minutes in the final game of the regular season. [16]
On October 1, 2012, Solomon signed with the New Orleans Hornets. [17] However, he was released on October 27. [18]
On December 28, 2012, Alabi joined the Idaho Stampede. [19] He was released on March 1, 2013.
On March 21, 2013, he signed with the Greek first division basketball club Ikaros Kallitheas B.C.
On September 28, 2013, Alabi signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. [20] However, he was waived on October 5. [21] He later signed with the Yulon Dinos of Taiwan for the 2013–14 season.
In January 2015, Alabi signed with the Barako Bull Energy for the 2015 PBA Commissioner's Cup. [22]

The NBA G League, or simply the G League, is the official minor league organization of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The league was known as the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) from 2001 to 2005, and the NBA Development League from 2005 until 2017. The league started with eight teams until NBA commissioner David Stern announced a plan to expand the NBA D-League to 15 teams and develop it into a true minor league farm system, with each NBA D-League team affiliated with one or more NBA teams in March 2005. At the conclusion of the 2013–14 NBA season, 33% of NBA players had spent time in the NBA D-League, up from 23% in 2011. As of the 2023–24 season, the league consists of 31 teams, 29 of which are either single-affiliated or owned by an NBA team, along with the NBA G League Ignite exhibition team.
Andrew Tyler Hansbrough is an American professional basketball player who last played for Cangrejeros de Santurce of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional. He has played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for seven seasons, as well as internationally.
Brian Butch is an American former professional basketball player. He is currently working mornings on 97.3 the Game with Steve Czaban in Milwaukee and as a radio color commentator for the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball and analyst for the Big Ten Network. He was a center on the 2003 McDonald's All-American basketball team and later attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison on a basketball scholarship. He was briefly a member of the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, although he never played any games for them.
Greivis Josué Vásquez Rodríguez is a former Venezuelan professional basketball player, who spent six seasons in the NBA. He is currently a coach, most recently working as the associate head coach for the Erie BayHawks of the NBA G League. Vásquez also represented the Venezuela national team in international competitions, as he was born in Caracas and moved to the United States to attend high school at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland in 2004.
Cole David Aldrich is an American former professional basketball player. He previously played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Minnesota Timberwolves. Miles Christian Plumlee is an American former professional basketball player. He played four years of college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils, winning a national championship in 2010. He was selected with the 26th overall pick in 2012 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers and went on to have a seven-year NBA career. He won an NBL championship with the Perth Wildcats in 2020.
Abdul Wahab "Alade" Aminu is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player who most recently played for Gigantes de Carolina of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, before playing professionally in France, Turkey, Italy, Israel, and Lebanon. He played college basketball for Florida State, where he was a member of four straight NCAA Tournament teams and still holds the school record for most career games played. After playing professionally in Latvia, Cyprus, Belgium, Germany, and the NBA Development League, Loucks joined the Golden State Warriors organization in the summer of 2016 in a paid internship position. He served as a player development coach with the Warriors organization between 2017 and 2021. He joined the Sacramento Kings following the hire of former Warriors assistant Mike Brown.

Precious Ezinna Achiuwa is a Nigerian professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He attended high school in the United States, where he was a consensus five-star recruit and named a McDonald's All-American. Achiuwa played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers, earning conference player of the year honors as a freshman in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2020. He was selected by the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2020 NBA draft with the 20th overall pick. After his rookie year ended in Miami, he was traded to the Raptors during the 2021 offseason.

He played college basketball for the Florida State Seminoles, earning third-team all-conference honors in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) as a freshman in 2021 and was selected with the fourth overall pick by the Raptors in the 2021 NBA draft. Barnes was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2022.
