Sourav Chandidas Ganguly,also known as Dada,is an Indian cricket commentator and former cricketer. He is popularly called the Maharaja of Indian Cricket. He was captain of the Indian national cricket team and is regarded as one of India's most successful cricket captains. The Chappell–Ganguly controversy was caused by a series of events in late 2005 and early 2006 which involved highly publicised infighting in the Indian cricket team between the then newly appointed coach Greg Chappell and captain Sourav Ganguly. The dispute resulted in the removal of Ganguly as captain and his replacement by vice-captain Rahul Dravid in November 2005,with Ganguly being dropped from the ODI team. Ganguly was also dropped from the Test team at the end of January 2006. Snehasish Chandidas Ganguly is a former Indian first-class cricketer and president of the Cricket Association of Bengal. Snehasish had a career with Bengal which spanned ten years,however,he did not play internationally like his younger brother Sourav Ganguly. After retiring from cricket,he focused on his family's printing business. Over the past 15 years,Ganguly has taken NK Gossain Printers and grown it into one of the best-known printing companies in the region. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Lux. In 1995,Ganguly married Mohiniyatam dancer Momm Ganguly. The couple had a daughter,Sneha,in 1998. He became the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal in October 2022.

The Sri Lanka national cricket team toured India during the 1997–98 cricket season,playing three Test matches and three One Day Internationals (ODIs). Both series were drawn;all three Tests were draws,and each side won one of the ODIs,tying the series 1–1. The other ODI,which was held on 25 December,was abandoned after three overs had been bowled,when after discussion between the two captains and the match referee,it was determined that the inconsistent bounce of the pitch was too dangerous for the players. This was the first occasion on which an international cricket match had been called off for this reason.
The South Africa national cricket team visited India in 2000 for a two-match Test series and a five-match ODI series. The 2022 Asia Cup was the 15th edition of the Asia Cup cricket tournament,with the matches played as Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) during August and September 2022 in the United Arab Emirates. Originally scheduled to be held in September 2020,the tournament was postponed in July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was then rescheduled to take place in June 2021,before being postponed once again. Pakistan was scheduled to host the tournament after retaining the rights to host the 2022 edition. However,in October 2021,the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that Sri Lanka would host the tournament in 2022,with Pakistan co-hosting the 2023 edition with the former. India were the defending champions,and were eliminated in the Super Four stage in this edition. Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 23 runs in the final,to win their sixth title and their first in T20I format.
The England cricket team toured India during February and March 2021 to play four Test matches,three One Day International (ODI) and five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.
