Mukesh Kumar (born 12 October 1993) is an Indian international cricketer. [2] He made his Test debut in July 2023, playing for India against West Indies. [3] Kumar plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and for Bengal in domestic cricket.

Early life

Mukesh Kumar was born on 12 October 1993 [2] and originally hails from Kakarkund in Gopalganj district, Bihar. In 2012, he moved to Kolkata at the insistence of his father who ran a taxi business there. [4]

Career

He made his first-class debut on 30 October in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy. [5] He made his List A debut on 13 December 2015 in the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy. [6] He made his Twenty20 debut on 6 January 2016 in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. [7]

International career

He got his maiden call-up for Indian cricket team in September 2022 for the ODI series against South Africa. In December 2022, he was picked in the Indian cricket team for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka. [8] In June 2023, he was named in the Indian squad for all three formats for the tour of West Indies. [9] [10] He made his debut in the second Test of the series on 20 July 2023 at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. [11] There, he took his maiden Test wicket – that of Kirk McKenzie – finishing with figures of 2/48 from 18 overs in the first innings and 0/5 from 5 overs in the second innings of the Test match. [11]

He made his ODI debut in the first match of the series against West Indies on 27 July 2023 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. [12] There, he took his maiden ODI wicket – that of Alick Athanaze – finishing with figures of 1/22 from 5 overs. [12]

He made his T20I debut in the first match of the series against West Indies on 3 August 2023 at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. [13]

In 2023, Mukesh Kumar married Chhapra based Divya Singh in Gorakhpur. [14]

The Indian cricket team toured the West Indies for a four-match Test series. Prior to the four Test matches, there were two tour matches. The tour coincided with the 2016 Caribbean Premier League. This was the first bilateral tour between the two sides since the West Indies pulled out of the previous tour in October 2014.

He plays for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and Gujarat in domestic cricket. He first came in limelight when he played for India in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, finishing as the tournament's highest wicket-taker with 17 dismissals. As of 6 December 2023, he is the top ranked T20I bowler.

The India cricket team toured the West Indies and the United States during July and August 2022 to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The ODIs and the first T20I took place in Trinidad and Tobago, the next two T20Is were played in St. Kitts and Nevis, with the final two T20Is played in Lauderhill, Florida. The full details of the tour were confirmed on 1 June 2022.

The India men's cricket team toured the West Indies and the United States in July and August 2023 to play two Test, three One Day International (ODI) and five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test series formed part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed this FTP tour in their press release in August 2022.
