A One Day International (ODI) is an international cricket match between two representative teams, each having ODI status, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC). [1] An ODI differs from Test matches in that the number of overs per team is limited, and that each team has only one innings.
India played their first ODI in 1974 and a total of 256 players have represented the team. Since 1974 India has played 1,058 ODIs, resulting in 559 victories, 445 defeats, 10 ties and 44 no results. [2] India's first series victory came against England in 1981, winning 2–1. [3] India won the Cricket World Cup twice in 1983 and 2011 and was runner-up in 2003 and 2023. India won the ICC Champions Trophy in the year 2013 and had earlier shared once with Sri Lanka in 2002 because rain washed out the attempt to complete the final twice. India was also runner-up in 2000. [4] India have won the Asia Cup (in ODI format) a total of seven times in 1984, 1988, 1990, 1995, 2010, 2018 and 2023. [5]
Sachin Tendulkar is the youngest debutant at the age of 16 years and 238 days [6] and Farokh Engineer is the oldest debutant at the age of 36 years and 138 days. [7] Anil Kumble is the leading wicket taker with 337 wickets to his name, [8] and Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run scorer with 18,426 runs to his name from 452 innings at an average of 44.83. [9] Tendulkar holds the record for playing the most ODI matches played (463). [10] He also holds the world record number of Man of the Match awards. [11] Rohit Sharma's score of 264 against Sri Lanka in November 2014 is the highest number of runs scored by any player in an ODI. [12] Sourav Ganguly's 183 against Sri Lanka is the highest number of runs scored by an Indian Cricketer in a Cricket World Cup match.

The list is arranged in the order in which each player won his first ODI cap. Where more than one player won his first ODI cap in the same match, those players are listed alphabetically by last name at the time of debut. The statistics in this table only include ODI matches played for India (some players have also played for the Asia XI or World XI).
Statistics are correct as of 7 August 2024. [13] [14] [15]

The 2008–09 international cricket season was between September 2008 and March 2009. The season saw the security concerns for cricket in Pakistan reach a pinnacle. The ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan in September 2008, was postponed to 2009 after five of the participating nations refused to send their teams for the event. In November 2008, a Pakistani militant group launched terror attacks in Mumbai. This led to India cancelling their tour of Pakistan originally scheduled for January and February 2009. Sri Lanka agreed to tour Pakistan in place of India. However, the tour was jeopardised by a terror attack in Lahore where gunmen fired at a bus carrying the Sri Lankan team, injuring six team members. The Champions Trophy was later relocated to South Africa. No international cricket were played in Pakistan for more than five years. This period of isolation ended when Zimbabwe toured Pakistan in May 2015. After successfully hosting a few T20Is against World-XI, the Sri Lanka cricket team and the West Indians from 2017 to 2018, a few matches of the Pakistan Super League from 2017 to 2019, the whole season in 2020 as well as hosting complete tours against Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi cricket teams respectively during the 2019–20 season, built a good reputation of Pakistan. Hence, by the end of 2019, the Pakistan Cricket Board, announced that they would no longer play any of their future home matches at a neutral venue, indicating that International Cricket has returned to the country on full-time basis.

The 2003 Cricket World Cup Final was a One Day International (ODI) match played on 23 March 2003 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. It marked the culmination of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the eighth edition of the tournament. It was the first time these two teams had met at this stage of a World Cup. For defending champions Australia it was their fifth World Cup final, while for India it was the second after their 1983 victory. Australia won the match by 125 runs to claim the title for the third time.
The Sri Lanka national cricket team toured India during the 1997–98 cricket season, playing three Test matches and three One Day Internationals (ODIs). Both series were drawn; all three Tests were draws, and each side won one of the ODIs, tying the series 1–1. The other ODI, which was held on 25 December, was abandoned after three overs had been bowled, when after discussion between the two captains and the match referee, it was determined that the inconsistent bounce of the pitch was too dangerous for the players. This was the first occasion on which an international cricket match had been called off for this reason.
