History

The present South Range High School was established in 1969, as a result of the merger of two other schools, Greenford High School, and North Lima High School. Each was having diminishing enrollments; so it was believed that combining the schools would yield a stronger institution moving forward. The Greenford High School building would be the new middle school while the North Lima High School building would be the new high school. This was the case for many decades.

In 2010, everything changed with the establishment of a brand new K-12 facility on Columbiana-Canfield Road, located almost perfectly between the two former buildings. The new campus grouped all levels of students into one school building, with continuity from kindergarten all the way through grade twelve. The formation of the school would bring together two communities, Greenford and North Lima, which had been mostly separate; today South Range High School is referred to as a symbol of community unity.

An interesting thing to know is that South Range's first senior class was very involved in the selection of the new school mascot and colors, thus embedding themselves in the identity of the school. South Range High School has remained a service provider to the community, maintaining not only a quality academic environment but also a sense of identity for the many students who enroll and the community that surrounds them. Now, one of the best schools found throughout Mahoning County, this school attracts new families into the area due to the high academic standards, extracurricular activities, and close-knit community. All of these things contribute to making it one of the most desirable districts regionally. The major renovation of the new building constructed in 2010, greatly marked the past and future step in the history of the school.

Athletics

The following is an alphabetical list of sports offered by the high school.

Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championships

- South Range won its first-ever State Championship in any sport with a 3-2 win over Coldwater in the OHSAA Division III Baseball State Championship.

- The South Range Wrestling Team won the Division III OHSWCA Dual State Championships 38-36 over Milan Edison in the Spring of 2022. This brought home their first team wrestling State Title and the second overall State Title in school history.

- Nearly 10 months after receiving their second State Title, South Range returned to the spotlight. They cruised past Ironton 53-27 in the OHSAA Division V Football State Championship. In the process the 2022 Raider Football Team became only the third team in OHSAA history to finish a perfect 16-0 and the first public school in Mahoning County to win a football State Title since 1999.
