South Sanpete School District is a public school district in the U.S. state of Utah. The district provides education for students in the southern half of Sanpete County. The offices for the district are located in Manti. There are three elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools and two alternative schools within the district. Enrollment in 2004 was 2,792 students.
The district includes Manti, Centerfield, Ephraim, Fayette, Gunnison, Mayfield, and Sterling. [1]

Sanpete County is a county in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 28,437. Its county seat is Manti, and its largest city is Ephraim. The county was created in 1850.

The Manti–La Sal National Forest covers more than 1.2 million acres (4,900 km2) and is located in the central and southeastern parts of the U.S. state of Utah and the extreme western part of Colorado. The forest is headquartered in Price, with ranger district offices in Price, Ferron, Ephraim, Moab and Monticello. The maximum elevation is Mount Peale in the La Sal Mountains, reaching 12,721 feet (3,877 m) above sea level. The La Sal Mountains are the second highest mountain range in Utah after the Uintas. Parts of the forest are included in the Bears Ears National Monument.

It is fed by Ephraim Middle School, which is in turn fed by Ephraim Elementary School and Manti Elementary School.
The Black Hawk War, or Black Hawk's War, is the name of the estimated 150 battles, skirmishes, raids, and military engagements taking place from 1865 to 1872, primarily between Mormon settlers in Sanpete County, Sevier County and other parts of central and southern Utah, and members of 16 Ute, Southern Paiute, Apache and Navajo tribes, led by a local Ute war chief, Antonga Black Hawk. The conflict resulted in the abandonment of some settlements and hindered Mormon expansion in the region.

Manti National Forest was established as the Manti Forest Reserve by the United States General Land Office in Colorado and Utah on May 29, 1903 with 584,640 acres (2,366.0 km2). After the transfer of federal forests to the U.S. Forest Service in 1905, it became a National Forest on March 4, 1907. On July 1, 1915 Nebo National Forest was added. On November 11, 1941, La Sal National Forest was added. On August 28, 1958 the name was changed to Manti-La Sal National Forest. Manti's lands are on the west side of the Colorado River in central Utah, between Manti and Price. In descending order of area, its lands are located in parts of Sanpete (50.3%), Emery (28.96%), Utah (12.59%), Carbon (4.11%), and Sevier (4.05%) counties. As of 30 September 2008 its area was 735,358 acres (2,975.9 km2), representing 57.87% of the combined Manti-La Sal National Forest's total area. There are local ranger district offices in Ephraim, Ferron, and Price, whereas the administrative headquarters of the combined Manti-La Sal National Forest are also in Price.
The San Pitch Utes were members of a band of Ute people that lived in the Sanpete Valley and Sevier River Valley and along the San Pitch River. They may have originally been Shoshonean, and were generally considered as part of the Timpanogos.
