Speen Ghar Tigers (Pashto : سپين غر زمريانSpīn Ghar Zmaryān) or Speen Ghar Region is one of six first-class cricket teams in Afghanistan. The region represents the following provinces in the east of Afghanistan, to the east of the capital Kabul: Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan. The team is named after Spīn Ghar, a mountain range in the region.
Afghanistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is a landlocked country located in South and Central Asia. Afghanistan is bordered by Pakistan in the south and east; Iran in the west; Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan in the north; and in the far northeast, China. Its territory covers 652,000 square kilometers (252,000 sq mi) and much of it is covered by the Hindu Kush mountain range, which experiences very cold winters. The north consists of fertile plains, whilst the south-west consists of deserts where temperatures can get very hot in summers. Kabul serves as the capital and its largest city.

According to estimates in 2015, the population of Kabul is 4.635 million, which includes all the major ethnic groups of Afghanistan. Rapid urbanization had made Kabul the world's 75th largest city.
Nangarhār, also called Nangrahar or Ningrahar, is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country. It is divided into twenty-two districts and has a population of about 1,436,000. The city of Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar province.
Speen Ghar Region compete in the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament, which had first-class status from 2017 onwards. [1] In October 2017, they won their opening fixture of the tournament, against Amo Region, by an innings and 46 runs. [2]
Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament is a four-day cricket tournament in Afghanistan played between six regional teams, each representing a number of Afghan provinces.
Amo Sharks or Amo Region is one of six first-class cricket teams in Afghanistan. The regional side represents the following provinces in the north of Afghanistan: Balkh, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Jowzjan, Faryab, Sar-i-Pul, Samangan, Takhar and Baghlan. The team is named after the Amo, a river in northern Afghanistan and Central Asia.
They also compete in the Afghan Shpageeza Cricket League Twenty20 competition (which will have Twenty20 status from 2017) using the name Speen Ghar Tigers. They also play in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament, which was granted List A status from 2017. [3]
The Shpageeza Cricket League was a Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board every year in Afghanistan. The Shpageeza tournament is established with six franchises, including players from the national team, overseas, players from the ‘A’ team and players from the under 19 team as well as elite performers from the respective regions participating in this tournament. In addition, ACB had given the league an identity by franchising all teams while players were selected through a draft for each team.
Twenty20 cricket, sometimes written Twenty-20, and often abbreviated to T20, is a short form of cricket. At the professional level, it was originally introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the inter-county competition in England and Wales. In a Twenty20 game the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. Together with first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three current forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as being at the highest international or domestic level. A typical Twenty20 game is completed in about three hours, with each innings lasting around 90 minutes and an official 10 minute break between the innings. This is much shorter than previously-existing forms of the game, and is closer to the timespan of other popular team sports. It was introduced to create a fast-paced form of the game which would be attractive to spectators at the ground and viewers on television.
The Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament is a cricket tournament organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) that forms part of the Afghanistan domestic cricket season. Starting from the 2017 season, following announcements from the ICC earlier in the same year, the tournament is recognized with List A status. The first ever domestic List A matches played in Afghanistan took place at the start of the 2017 edition of the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament on 10 August 2017 at Khost Cricket Stadium, Khost. It is named after Afghan King Amanullah Khan. The winner of the first tournament was Spin Ghar Region.
