Sreejaya Nair is an Indian actress and dancer. She worked in the Malayalam film industry throughout 1990s and retired after marriage and returned to acting in 2014. She is a professional dancer and conducts a dance school named Sreejaya's School of Classical Dance in Bangalore.

Early life

Sreejaya hails from Kothamangalam, Kerala, India. She began learning dance from the age of five under the teachers Kalamandalam Sumathi and Kalamandalam Saraswathi. She joined Kerala Kalamandalam and took classes in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. She later began training under the teacher Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarathy. [1]

Career

She made her film debut in the Malayalam drama film Kamaladalam in 1992. [2] In 1998, she acted in comedy drama Summer in Bethlehem . [3] She took a break after her marriage. [1]

Personal life

Sreejaya is married to businessman Madhan Nair and the couple has a daughter named Mythili. They moved to Kozhikode and then to Bangalore and Canada after marriage. Later returned to and settled in Bangalore. Sreejaya conducts a dance school named Sreejaya's School of Classical Dance in Bangalore, which has 3 branches in the city and trains more than 20 students. [4] [1]

Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair (1928–2007) was an eminent Kathakali exponent, equally known for his capacities as a tutor, theoretician and author of a few authentic texts on the classical dance-drama from Kerala in south India. A son of the Kathakali guru Pattikkamthodi Ravunni Menon, Padmanabhan Nair was one of the early-batch students in Kerala Kalamandalam, where he subsequently joined as a teacher and retired as its principal in 1990. He died on 3 April 2007, at his home in Shoranur, near his alma mater, where he led his post-professorial life with wife and Mohiniyattam exponent and guru, Kalamandalam Satyabhama.

Kamaladalam is a 1992 Indian Malayalam-language musical drama film written by A. K. Lohithadas and directed by Sibi Malayil, starring Mohanlal, Murali, Vineeth, Nedumudi Venu, Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair, Monisha, Parvathy Jayaram and Sukumari. The film was produced by Mohanlal through his company Pranavam Arts and features original songs composed by Raveendran with a background score by Johnson. She is the Principal Director and senior Guru at Kerala Kalalayam, a fine arts institute established by her parents at Thripunithura in 1952.

Kalamandalam Sugandhi is a Mohiniyattam dancer, choreographer and dance teacher from Kerala, India. She received several awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Fellowship, Kerala Konkani Sahitya Academy Award and Kerala Kalamandalam Award.

Mangat Mulaykkal Thankamani, known by her married name Thankamani Gopinath was a prominent Indian Mohiniyattam dancer and dance teacher from Kerala. The wife and co-dancer of Guru Gopinath, she was the first student of Mohiniyattam from Kalamandalam. Thankamani is considered as one of the important icons in the history of women's progress in Kerala, who learned Mohiniyattam at a time when learning and performing dance was considered unethical for girls in Kerala. She has also starred and sung a song in the 1941 Malayalam movie Prahlada.
