St. Francis Xavier High School is a high school in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is operated by Edmonton Catholic Schools System. The school started in 1955, [1] with the purpose built school (since expanded) opened in 1958. [2] Originally part of the Town of Jasper Place school system, St. Francis Xavier transferred to the Edmonton system when Jasper Place amalgamated with Edmonton in 1964.

Academic program

In addition to the regular Alberta high school curriculum, the school offers a number of specialized programs.

The advanced placement program "prepare[s] students to acquire the knowledge, concepts, and skills needed to engage in a higher level of learning". [3]

The school provides a number of sports academies programs: baseball, golf, hockey, lacrosse and soccer. [4]

He was the last WHA player to be active in professional ice hockey, and the last active player in any of the major North American professional sports leagues to have played in the 1970s. After his playing career, he served as special assistant to the president and general manager of the Rangers.

David Allan Hoyda was a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Hoyda played four seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Philadelphia Flyers and Winnipeg Jets. He was known primarily as an enforcer.

Michael Stephen Volcan is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 162 National Hockey League games for the Hartford Whalers and Calgary Flames from 1980 until 1984. He recorded eight goals and 33 assists in his career. Volcan was a third round draft pick, 50th overall by the Whalers in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He was the youngest player in the NHL in the 1980–81 season. Volcan retired following the 1990–91 season.

Steve Carlyle is a former professional ice hockey defenceman and current coach. He was selected in the third round of the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft, 31st overall, by the Montreal Canadiens., but never played in the NHL. Carlyle joined the Alberta Oilers for the inaugural 1972–73 WHA season, staying with the renamed Edmonton Oilers until the 1975–76 WHA season.
