Waldo County is a county in the state of Maine, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 39,607. Its county seat is Belfast. The county was founded on February 7, 1827, from a portion of Hancock County and named after Brigadier-General Samuel Waldo, proprietor of the Waldo Patent.

The Medomak River, historically known as the Muscongus River, is a 40-mile-long (64 km) river in Maine. From its source in Liberty, the river winds 32 miles (51 km) south to the head of its tidal river estuary in Waldoboro, then about 8 miles (13 km) south to Bremen. The river flows through Hockomock Channel into the head of Muscongus Bay. Medomak is Abenaki for "place (river) of many alewives".
The Saint George River is a river in Maine with a watershed of 225 square miles (580 km2) in a unique and historic area of mountains, sea coast, lakes, tidal streams and inlets. The origin of the Saint George River is the outflow of Saint George Lake in Liberty. The river follows a winding course 45 miles (72 km) south to Thomaston, where the river flows into the estuary and runs about 12 miles (19 km) southwest to Muscongus Bay, forming the border between Cushing and St. George.
Warren Island State Park is state-owned island and public recreation area on Penobscot Bay in the town of Islesboro, Waldo County, Maine, United States. The 70-acre (28 ha) state park sits about ½-mile from Islesboro Island and 3 miles (4.8 km) offshore from the mainland at Lincolnville. The island was acquired by the state of Maine for one dollar in 1959. Hiking trails, campsites, and open-faced shelters are found on the island; a pier allows access by private boat.
Swan Lake State Park is a public recreation area at the north end of 3-mile-long (4.8 km) Swan Lake in the town of Swanville, Waldo County, Maine. The state park's 67 acres (27 ha) offer opportunities for swimming, picnicking, canoeing, and fishing. The 1,370-acre (550 ha) lake supports populations of smallmouth bass, landlocked salmon, white perch, brook trout, and wild togue. The park is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
Swan Lake is the second largest lake in Waldo County, Maine. Originally known as Goose Pond, during the 19th century it came increasingly to be referred to as Swan Lake, after the town of Swanville, Maine, which before incorporation had been known as the Plantation of Swan.
Waldoboro is a town in Lincoln County, Maine, United States. The population was 5,154 at the 2020 census. Waldoboro was incorporated in 1773 and developed a reputation as a ship building and port facility from the banks of the Medomak River. The town's strong agricultural and fishing legacy continues today, with recently renewed enthusiasm for traditional natural fiber production, cheesemaking, farm brewing, fermentation, soapmaking, and other lost agrarian arts. Waldoboro is becoming a popular destination, with miles of scenic river frontage, a thriving arts community, and historical interest in its past as a German settlement.
Lake St. George State Park is a public recreation area located on the northwest shore of Lake St. George in the town of Liberty, Waldo County, Maine. The state park covers 358 acres (145 ha) and offers camping, lifeguard-supervised swimming, picnicking, canoeing, motorized boating, and fishing. The lake's 1,017 acres (412 ha) support populations of landlocked salmon and brook trout. The park is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
Hawaii 2 is a six-acre (2.4 ha) private island in St. George Lake, Liberty, Maine, United States. Previously used as de facto public land, in 2014 the island was purchased by Cards Against Humanity LLC as part of a fundraiser for the Sunlight Foundation. After licensing the island for use by those who contributed to the campaign, the town of Liberty threatened the games company with hundreds of millions in fines for code violations.
The Georges River Canal, also known as the General Knox Canal was a short-lived canal that operated on and near the course of the Saint George River in Knox and Waldo Counties in south-central Maine. First owned and operated by American Revolutionary War General Henry Knox between 1794 and 1806, it was briefly revived in 1847–50, but was not financially successful. It provided for transport of goods from near the river's headwaters in Searsmont to the head of navigation at Warren. A few elements of the canal survive today, and its route was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
