Bismarck is the capital of the U.S. state of North Dakota and the county seat of Burleigh County. It is the state's second-most populous city, after Fargo. The population was 73,622 at the 2020 census, and was estimated to be 75,092 in 2023, while its metropolitan population was 133,626. In 2020, Forbes magazine ranked Bismarck as the seventh fastest-growing small city in the United States.
Mandan is a city on the eastern border of Morton County and the eighth-most populous city in North Dakota. Founded in 1879 on the west side of the upper Missouri River, it was designated in 1881 as the county seat of Morton County. The population was 24,206 at the 2020 census. Across the Missouri River from Bismarck, Mandan is a core city of the Bismarck–Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Santa Margarita Catholic High School (SMCHS) is a coeducational college preparatory Roman Catholic high school located in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, United States. SMCHS is owned and operated by the Diocese of Orange, and was opened in 1987 under the direction of the Bishop of Orange. Although it follows the Catholic tradition, admission is open to students of all faiths. As of fall 2018, 1,673 students were enrolled in grades 9 through 12.
Shanley High School, is a Catholic high school located in Fargo, North Dakota and operated by the Diocese of Fargo as part of the John Paul II Catholic Schools Network. As of 2014, it served approximately 314 students. Academics are strongly oriented towards college preparatory with approximately 99% of the student body continuing to either a 2 or 4-year degree program. In addition to standard academics courses, student complete required religious education courses during each academic semester.

The North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) is the governing body for the U.S. state of North Dakota's high-school athletics and fine arts. The current executive director of the NDHSAA is Matthew Fetsch and the headquarters are located in Valley City, North Dakota.
Mandan High School is a public high school located in Mandan, North Dakota. It is the only high school within the Mandan Public Schools system, serving grades 9–12. In 2007 the Mandan Public School District renovated the high school. Mandan is the sixth-largest school district in the state of North Dakota. Mandan High School has an 88% graduation rate. Enrollment for the 2009–2010 school year was 1,056 students. The graduating class for the 2009–10 school year was 229 students. On April 1, 2010, Mandan High School was recognized for maintaining 100 years of continuous accreditation by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. In 2024, Mandan opened a new high school location.

Red River High School (RRHS) is a public high school located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States. The school was originally built in 1967 for grades 10-12, and was remodeled in 1995 to accommodate grades 9- 12. It serves approximately 1,137 students and is one of two high schools in the Grand Forks Public Schools system. The athletic teams are known as the Roughriders.

The North Dakota College Athletic Conference (NDCAC) was a collegiate athletic conference that ceased operations following the 1999–2000 academic school year when it merged with the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference to form the Dakota Athletic Conference. The former NAIA conference originally started as the Interstate Athletic Conference in 1922, with five North Dakota schools and Moorhead State Teachers College from Minnesota. Moorhead State left in 1931 to help found the Northern State Teachers Conference in 1931, and the remaining members brought in more schools to regroup as the NDCAC.
Grafton High School is a public high school built in 1981 and located in Grafton, North Dakota. The school is part of the Grafton Public Schools system. The official school colors are maroon and gold and the athletic teams are known as the Spoilers. Des Lacs-Burlington High School (DLBHS) is a public high school in Des Lacs, North Dakota that serves students in Burlington as well as Des Lacs. It is part of the United Public School District 7 and was formed from a merger between both of the towns school districts in the late 1960s. Des Lacs-Burlington High School students attend grades K-6 at Burlington-Des Lacs Elementary School in Burlington, and grades 7–12 at DLBHS.
Jay Thomas Flaa is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves. He was drafted by the Orioles in the 6th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.
Legacy High School (LHS) is a public high school located in Bismarck, North Dakota. Legacy was founded following a $55 million bond approval in 2012, with students attending classes at other locations run by Bismarck Public Schools while the campus was under construction. Before Legacy was established, the last public high school to open in Bismarck was Century High School in 1975. The school has a graduation rate of 96%.
Elbowoods is a ghost town that was located in McLean County, North Dakota, United States, on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. It was founded in 1889 along the Missouri River as the agency seat for the reservation of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. After the creation of the Garrison Dam and Lake Sakakawea, rising water levels threatened the town, slowly engulfing its buildings until the entire town was submerged in 1954.
