Academics
In 2004, Aquinas adopted a new model of governance and administration for the school.
As of the 2009–2010 school year:
- The president of the school is Thomas Dyer, who served as a teacher and administrator from 1972–1984
- The principal is Joseph C. Vagedes, previously a long-time Chemistry teacher and administrator at the school.
As of the 2016-2017 school year:
- Father Thomas Dyer retired and is serving as the president emeritus.
- The principal is Frederick Schlueter, previously the assistant principal at Alliance High School.
- The assistant principal is Laura Parise.
There is also a Board of Directors that oversee all operations of the school, including finances, enrollment, fundraising, mission, development, etc., and is made up of various individuals with Aquinas connections including alumni, parents of former Aquinas students, and parents of current Aquinas students.
A middle school for grades six to eight opened at the high school campus for the 2014-2015 school year. [2]
Athletics
Included in STA's trophy case are five state boys cross country championships (including three in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and two in 2006 and 2007), numerous regional appearances for boys and girls basketball, a state team title in girls tennis, as well as many individual state qualifiers in girls tennis, and many state track and field qualifiers. Other sports, such as soccer (boys and girls), baseball, softball, and swimming have also seen regional and state qualifiers over the years. STA swimming produced many state qualifiers from the late 1980s through the 1990s. In 1990, the STA boys swim team finished 6th overall in the state, which is one of the highest finishes for a Stark County swim team since 1990. [3] [4] In 2007, the boys soccer won its second district title in a row and were regional runner-ups.
Between 1973 and 1989, the football team played in three state championship games (once in the old Class AA in 1974, and twice in Division IV in 1984 and 1985). In 1984, STA won the Ohio State Championship in football in Division IV with a 23-0 win over Columbus Bishop Hartley Hawks. Over a 2-year stretch, the 1984-1985 seasons, STA football compiled a total record of 25-1-1 with 2 state title game appearances and numerous all-Ohio selections. STA appeared in the state playoffs six times during the 1970s and 1980s. [5]
Boys golf made three state appearances in 2011, 2012, and 2013. In 2013 they were also sectional and district winners
STA joined the North Coast League (NCL) beginning in the 2013-14 school year for all sports except football. The football program joined the NCL for the 2014-15 school year.
The St. Thomas Aquinas Knights were featured in the 2013 film Underdogs.
Walsh Jesuit High School is a private, Catholic, co-educational college preparatory high school in the Jesuit tradition, located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, approximately 30 miles (48 km) south of Cleveland.
Columbus Academy (CA) is a selective, independent college-preparatory school for students from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. The school is located on a large, secluded campus surrounded by wooded areas in Gahanna, Ohio in the United States, 8 miles from downtown Columbus. The academy was founded in 1911 by J. L. Hamill in Bexley, Ohio and moved to its current campus in 1968. Originally an all-boys school, it became coeducational in 1991 when the board of trustees decided to admit girls. From its conception, the school expanded over time to a matriculation level of 1,000 students. Columbus Academy students and alumni often refer to the school as "Academy."
Anthony Wayne High School is a public high school in Whitehouse, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo. The school has an enrollment of approximately 1,330 students in grades 9–12 as of 2019–20. The school is named for General Anthony Wayne, who led troops in the nearby Battle of Fallen Timbers during the Northwest Indian War.
Thomas Worthington High School (TWHS) is a public school in Worthington, Ohio. The school was named Worthington High School until 1991, when sister school, Worthington Kilbourne High School, opened.
Minster High School is a public high school in Minster, Ohio, in northwestern Ohio. It is the only high school in the Minster Local Schools district. They are a member of the Midwest Athletic Conference.
Lake Catholic High School is a private Roman Catholic secondary school in Mentor, Ohio, United States. It is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.
West High School is a public high school located on the west side of Columbus, Ohio, in the Westgate neighborhood in the Hilltop area. It is a part of Columbus City Schools.
Upper Arlington High School is the sole high school in the Upper Arlington City School District in Upper Arlington, Ohio, a northwest suburb of Columbus, Ohio. It receives students from Jones Middle School and Hastings Middle School. The current principal of the high school is Mr. Andrew Theado. The mascot is a golden bear.
St. Vincent–St. Mary High School is a co-educational college preparatory Catholic high school in Akron, Ohio, United States. It is sponsored by the Society of Mary and is associated with the Diocese of Cleveland. As of the 2017–18 school year, the school had an enrollment of 638 students.
Winton Woods High School is a public high school located in Forest Park, just north of Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Winton Woods City School District. Winton Woods High School serves about 1,560 students from Village of Greenhills, the City of Forest Park, and parts of Springfield Township.

Marlington High School is a public high school in Lexington Township, Ohio near Alliance. It is the only high school in the Marlington Local School District. The name is a portmanteau of Marlboro and Lexington or Washington townships, and the district actually covers those mostly rural areas and northern, western, and southern parts of Alliance itself. Marlington's sports teams are nicknamed the Dukes. The sports affiliation is the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
Zanesville High School is a public high school in Zanesville, Ohio. Zanesville High School is the only public high school in the Zanesville City School District.
Bishop Rosecrans High School is a private, Catholic high school, operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus, located in Zanesville, in the U.S. state of Ohio. The school's athletic teams are known as the Bishops.
Buckeye Local High School is a public high school in Connorville, Ohio, United States, near Rayland. It is the only secondary school in the Buckeye Local School District. Athletic teams compete as the Buckeye Local Panthers in the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference.
Fairfield High School is a public high school in Fairfield, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Fairfield City School District, and serves grades 10–12. The Fairfield City School district serves students in the city of Fairfield and Fairfield Township.
Versailles High School is a public high school in Versailles, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Versailles Exempted Village School District. The Versailles Tigers are a member of the Midwest Athletic Conference. The current High School Principal is Jacki Stonebraker.
Monroeville High School is a public high school in Monroeville, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Monroeville Local Schools district. Their nickname is the Eagles. They are members of the Firelands Conference.
Pleasant Local High School, also known as Pleasant High School and Marion Pleasant High School, is a public high school in Pleasant Township, near Marion, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Pleasant Local School District. Student enrollment was at 369 as of October 2017.
