St James' is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based on the east side of Galway City in Ireland. [1] The Club's catchment area covers the parishes of Renmore, Mervue, Ballybane & Good Shepard (Doughiska).
The club was formed in 1994, when Renmore & Mervue GAA clubs amalgamated to cater for their adult football teams, and was initially called 'Mervue/Renmore. In 1998, the club was renamed to St. James'. The name St. James' comes from the historic church and graveyard of St.James, located approximately half-way between the Mervue GAA pitch and Renmore GAA pitch. Renmore & Mervue still competed at juvenile level separately, with Minor and U21 teams gradually being added, and in 2007 the clubs fully amalgamated. Over the years as the population of the surrounding areas grew, the catchment area spread to include Ballybane & Good Shepard (Doughiska) parishes.
The club is a member of the Galway GAA. Underage teams up to U-16's play in the Galway league and championships while they compete at higher levels as well. The club has had much success in recent years winning back to back Minor A County Championships in 2006 & 2007, as well as two Minor A West Board titles in the same years. They finished top of the Minor League in 2006.
At Intermediate level, the club narrowly missed out on the 2006 and 2009 county titles. These victories indicated the future was certainly bright for the club, and in 2010, won the Galway Intermediate Championship, beating An Spidéal in the final, and also defeating Carna-Caiseal in the semi-finals, after two replays. They progressed to win the Connacht Club Intermediate Championship, and from there beat Gneevguilla of Kerry in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club semi-final in Mallow, County Cork. St James' faced Lisnaskea Emmets of Fermanagh in the All Ireland intermediate club football final in Croke Park, on 12 February 2011.
The club have played in the Galway Senior Club Football championship since 2011.

Teams at underage and Senior level play in the Galway League and Championships. Though the McHales are the first team to have won the Galway Senior Championship in 1889 the club has not won the Frank Fox cup in almost four decades, last winning the championship in 1983.

The Connacht Senior League was an association football league featuring amateur, intermediate, and League of Ireland reserve teams affiliated to the Connacht Football Association. It was a third level league in the Republic of Ireland football league system. An earlier provincial league, the Western League, had been active, on and off, since the 1930s before the Connacht Football Association decided to establish a more permanent league. The CSL was active between 1981 and 2000. In 2013 discussions were held about relaunching the league.
Moycullen GAA is a group title for several Gaelic Athletic Association clubs based in Moycullen, County Galway. The three clubs, Cumann Peile Mhaigh Cuilinn, Cumann Iománaíocht Maigh Cuilinn and Cumann Camógaíocht Mhaigh Cuilinn share playing facilities and cooperate on a number of the local community and sporting issues. Paul Conroy is an Irish Gaelic footballer and teacher who plays at senior level for the Galway county team. Conroy was captain of the All-Ireland winning Minor team in 2007 when they narrowly defeated Derry. Conroy made his Senior championship debut against Roscommon and scored finished the game with a tally of 0–6.
