Stanley Girls High School is a missionary girls school located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. [1] [2] It has two branches one near Abids and Malakpet [3] It is administered by the Centenary Methodist Church, Hyderabad of India.
American missionary Ms. Alice Evans was the school's first principal, which opened in 1896 with a donation from Elizabeth K Stanley. The school reached its centenary in 1996, completing 100 years. The school was established in Hyderabad State, the then princely state of Nizam of Hyderabad. It was one of the Famous Schools in Hyderabad during those days. [4] The school also has Junior, Degree and Engineering colleges. Actress Dia Mirza have attended the college for Junior level courses. [5] The school ground has hosted Nandi Awards twice. The School follows the curriculum as per the 10th level state Government Exams conducted by Andhra Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. The school is located just opposite to Telangana State Board of Secondary Education, the seat of the Directorate of Governmental Exams.
Osmania University is a collegiate public state university located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Telugu Christians or Telugu Kraistava are a religious community who form the third-largest religious minority in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Although the Franciscans of the Roman Catholic Church brought Christianity to the Deccan area in 1535, it was only after 1759 AD, when the Northern Circars came under the rule of the East India Company, that the region opened up to greater Christian influence. The first Protestant missionaries in Andhra Pradesh were Rev. Cran and Rev. Des Granges who were sent out by the London Missionary Society. They set up their station at Visakhapatnam in 1805 AD. Regions with significant populations of Telugu Christians include the erstwhile Northern Circars, the coastal belt and the cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Telugu Christians have one of the highest literacy and work participation figures and most even male-to-female ratio figures among the various religious communities in the state.
MCI-Centenary Methodist Church is a church compound located at Chapel road, Abids housing two of the most prominent churches in the city. It is a Protestant Church and is under the auspices of Methodist Church in India. It was built in the 1970s in order to accommodate the increasing number of Methodists in the city. It is currently the largest church in Hyderabad in terms of seating capacity. The church shares its premises with its predecessor the Methodist chapel which was built in 1817. This church which is popularly known as the Methodist Chapel of Chapel Road was established by the missionaries of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The church offers services in Telugu, English, Hindi, Marathi and Kannada.
