Stein Olav "Laffen" Hestad (born 30 June 1952) is a Norwegian former footballer. Hestad spent his entire playing career at Molde FK, where he previously had club record with 681 first-team matches, [1] including 249 matches in the Norwegian top division. [2] Unlike his brother, Harry, "Laffen" was never capped for Norway.

Club career

Hestad got his debut in a competitive match on 1 May 1971 in a second tier league game Molde lost 0–1 at home to Aalesund. [3] He played a total of 249 top division matches for Molde and scored 27 goals. He won the silver medal in the Norwegian league in 1974 and 1987. [1] He was also at Moldes losing Norwegian Cup finalist teams in both the 1982 Norwegian Football Cup and 1989 Norwegian Football Cup.

International career

Hestad played seven matches for the Norway national under-21 football team. [4]

Personal life

He is the brother of Harry Hestad, with whom he was a teammate for several seasons at Molde.

He is the father of the footballers Daniel Berg Hestad, which surpassed him in number of first-team matches for Molde FK, [5] and Peter Berg Hestad, as well as brother-in-law with the footballers Odd Berg and Jan Berg.

Odd Sigurd Berg is a Norwegian football coach and former player. As a player, he played mostly for Molde FK. In 1974, he became top goalscorer in the top division with 13 goals, the first Molde-player to become top scorer in the top division. He later coached Molde, both as an assistant and head coach.

Jan Fuglset is a Norwegian former professional football player. Fuglset is known as one of the leading goal-scorers in the Norwegian top division with 109 goals from 1967–1982. He is the brother of Tor Fuglset.

The 2009 Norwegian Football Cup final was played between Molde FK and Aalesunds FK on 8 November 2009 on Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway. With both clubs hailing from Møre og Romsdal, the match was dubbed as a local derby between the league silver medalists from Molde and the pride of Ålesund, who ended up as number four from the bottom in the league.

Harry Asbjørn Hestad is a Norwegian former football player and coach. Just as his brother Stein Olav Hestad, Hestad played for Molde almost his entire career, only interrupted by two seasons in the Dutch club FC Den Haag. He was also an active player for the Norwegian national team from 1969 through 1976, scoring five goals in 31 matches.

The 2016 season was Molde's ninth consecutive year in Tippeligaen, and their 40th season in the top flight of Norwegian football. Along with the Tippeligaen, the club also competed in the Norwegian Cup and 2015–16 UEFA Europa League.

The 2004 season was Molde's 29th season in the top flight of Norwegian football. In Tippeligaen they finished in 11th position.

Molde Fotballklubb is a football club from Molde, Norway. It was established in 1911 as International by a group of people gathered by Klaus Daae Andersen. After permission was granted, it took the current name and joined the league system in 1928. Until 1937, Molde played in regional leagues, after numerous promotions and relegations. Since 1930, the team has played in the Norwegian Football Cup. In 1939, the club joined the third season of the League of Norway, the top division, but the break-out of the World War II caused a halt to all organized sports and thus this season was never completed.
