Central Nova is a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 until 1996. In 1996, Antigonish County and part of Guysborough County were placed with Pictou County in a new electoral boundaries configuration to form the electoral district of Pictou-Antigonish-Guysborough. A new version of Central Nova was established in 2003 and — in conjunction with the Pictou-Antigonish-Guysborough iteration — represented a significant electoral boundaries change with specific reference to Antigonish County. Between 1867 and 1997, Antigonish County was not in a riding that included Pictou County; rather, it comprised either its own electoral district (Antigonish), or part of other districts shared with Eastern Nova Scotia (Antigonish-Guysborough) and Cape Breton Island communities. In 2013, part of Antigonish County was "placed back" with communities in the electoral district of Cape Breton Canso, a riding which had emerged in part from the former Cape Breton Highlands Canso riding in 1996. The current version of Central Nova includes Pictou County, parts of Antigonish and Guysborough Counties and extends into Halifax Regional Municipality.

Halifax Cobequid was a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elected one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It was formed in 1956 as Halifax Northwest from part of the former district of Halifax West. In 1966, the district was renamed Halifax County North West, and the following year, in 1967 it was renamed Halifax Cobequid. It existed until 1978, when it was redistributed into four new districts: Sackville, Halifax Bedford Basin, Bedford-Musquodoboit Valley, and Cole Harbour.

George Raymond Doucet is a former high school principal and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Halifax Cobequid in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1974 to 1978 as a Liberal. He was born in Quebec City, Quebec, the son of Herbert Louis Doucet and Agnes Boudreau. He was educated there, at St. Francis Xavier University and at the École Normale in Laval, Quebec. In 1961, he married Virginia Ann McMaster. Doucet entered provincial politics in the 1974 election, winning the Halifax Cobequid riding. He served as Speaker of the House of Assembly of Nova Scotia from 1977 to 1978. In the 1978 election, Doucet ran in the new riding of Sackville, and was defeated by Progressive Conservative Malcolm A. MacKay.
