Steven Richard Erickson (born August 14, 1961) is an American sailor and Olympic Champion. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and won a gold medal in the Star class with William Earl Buchan. [1]

Steve Erickson won two Star Class World Championships: in 1985 with William Earl Buchan; and, in 1988 with Paul Cayard.

Erickson's first America's Cup was with Tom Blackaller, on the 12 Meter "USA" / US 61, from San Francisco. He served as the mainsail trimmer. Perth, Western Australia. 1987.

At the 1992 America's Cup, Erickson was one of the coaches for the Il Moro Challenge . [2]

At the 1995 America's Cup, Erickson was a trimmer on board Dennis Conner Stars & Stripes. [3]

Erickson won the 1997–98 Whitbread Round the World Race as part of the EF Language crew, before joining Luna Rossa as their coach for the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup, which they won. He was a member of the boat's afterguard during the 2003 Louis Vuitton Cup, before working as their operations manager at the 2007 and 2013 Louis Vuitton Cups. [4] Erickson also spent time with the 2007 Ben Ainslie Team Origin.

Philippe Presti is a French sailor. He competed at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. In 1993 and 1996 he won the Finn Gold Cup.

The 8th Louis Vuitton Cup was held during July and August 2013, in San Francisco, California, United States of America. The three contenders were Artemis Racing (Sweden), Emirates Team New Zealand, and Luna Rossa Challenge (Italy). After a preliminary round robin to determine seeding, Artemis Racing was eliminated in the semi-final round by Luna Rossa Challenge by four races to none. In the final, Emirates Team New Zealand beat Luna Rossa Challenge by seven races to one, and went on to challenge Oracle Team USA for the 2013 America's Cup.

Giles Lyndon Scott is a British competitive sailor and four-time Finn Gold Cup winner who won the gold medal for Team GB in the Finn Class at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where having dominated the class, Scott secured his place in the history books winning the gold medal with a day to spare. He is also a member of the 2021 INEOS TEAM UK America's Cup team campaign with Ben Ainslie Racing where he is tactician.

Italy at the Americas Cup

Since the 1980s, Italy has been a serious challenge contender for the America's Cup. Italian teams have won the Challenger Selection Series three times: the Louis Vuitton Cup in 1992 with Il Moro di Venezia, in 2000 with Luna Rossa and the Prada Cup in 2021, again with Luna Rossa.
