Steven Universe: Save the Light is an action-adventure role-playing video game developed by Grumpyface Studios and published by Cartoon Network Games. Based on the television series Steven Universe , it is a sequel to the 2015 mobile game Steven Universe: Attack the Light , and is set before Steven Universe: Unleash the Light . It was released digitally on October 31, 2017 for PlayStation 4, on November 3, 2017 for Xbox One, [1] and on August 13, 2018 for macOS and Windows; and released physically on October 30, 2018 for Nintendo Switch. Gameplay

After the events of Attack the Light!, Steven, the Gems and their friends go on a quest to retrieve the Light Prism when the Homeworld Gem Hessonite (voiced by Christine Baranski) steals it. [3]

Save the Light features seven playable characters from the series, Steven, Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Connie, Greg and Peridot, with four characters being equipped to a party at a time. [4] [5] The game has a "blend of real-time and turn-based combat", and more of a focus on exploration and puzzle-solving than its predecessor. [1] Players are able to explore Beach City and surrounding areas, and engage in battles with enemies. During battle, the players' actions, which include attacking and defending, will build up the star meter, which allows the characters to pull off more powerful moves. A new feature allows characters to build up a relationship-based meter during battles and dialogue interactions; when filled, certain characters are able to fuse, such as Steven and Connie into Stevonnie. Development

Grumpyface Studios collaborated on the story with series creator Rebecca Sugar, and cited the increased gameplay complexity compared to Attack the Light! as a reason for the switch to consoles. [1] The game was announced at PAX East in March 2017. [7] A port of the game to PC and Mac, by Finite Reflection Studios, was announced in July 2018, [8] and confirmed to release on Steam in August 2018. [2] The developers later teased another big announcement related to the game, eventually revealed to be a Nintendo Switch port, and a physical release of the game bundled with Capybara Games' OK K.O.! Let's Play Heroes for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch was released in May 2019 by Outright Games. [9]

Reception

Upon release, Save the Light received mostly positive reviews. Polygon and Destructoid both praised the game's art direction, battle system, and connection to the series, but criticized the amount of bugs and glitches found at launch. [11] [15]

<i>Hyper Light Drifter</i> 2016 video game

Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D action role-playing game developed by Heart Machine. The Microsoft Windows, Linux and OS X versions were released in March 2016, and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions in July 2016. A Special Edition port of the game, featuring additional content, was released by Abylight Studios for the Nintendo Switch in September 2018 and for iOS devices in July 2019.

Steven Universe: Attack the Light is a role-playing video game developed by Grumpyface Studios and published by Cartoon Network Games. The game, based on the animated TV series Steven Universe and featuring a story written by series creator Rebecca Sugar, was released for iOS and Android mobile devices on April 2, 2015. An Apple TV/tvOS version was later developed, which added "Diamond Mode", a higher-difficulty version of the game with added bonuses.

Grumpyface is a mobile game developer based in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. It was founded by Chris Graham in June 2010. They are best known for their collaboration with Adult Swim Games and Cartoon Network Games, and have developed over seven titles between the two publishers. Some of Grumpyface's most popular titles include Castle Doombad, Super Mole Escape, and Steven Universe: Attack the Light!.

Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers is a side-scrolling beat 'em up video game based on multiple Cartoon Network series developed by French studio Magic Pockets and published by GameMill Entertainment in the North American release and Maximum Games in the European release. It was released for Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 8 November 2016. A Nintendo DS version was also going to be released but was cancelled, as GameMill Entertainment's page for the game shows a cover for a Nintendo DS version. The game features characters from various Cartoon Network shows, including Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, Clarence, Regular Show, Steven Universe, and Uncle Grandpa.

<i>Snipperclips</i> 2017 video game

Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together! is a puzzle video game developed by SFB Games and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. The game was released worldwide as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch on March 3, 2017. An expanded version, titled Snipperclips Plus, was released on November 10, 2017. In the game, the players have a "snipping" mechanic where they can cut the other player into a different shape, which is used to solve the various puzzles.

<i>OneShot</i> 2016 video game

OneShot is a puzzle-adventure game developed by indie studio Future Cat and published by Degica. Based on a free version made in 2014, it was released for Windows on December 8, 2016. A console adaptation, OneShot: World Machine Edition, was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 22, 2022.

OK K.O.! Let's Play Heroes is an action-adventure beat 'em up video game developed by Capybara Games and published by Cartoon Network Games. It is based on the show OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes and was released digitally on January 23, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, with a port to the Nintendo Switch launching physically in 2019. A physical release of the game bundled with Grumpyface Studios' Steven Universe: Save the Light for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch was released in May 2019.

Super Hydorah is a 2017 independent side-scrolling shoot 'em up video game developed by Locomalito and published by Abylight Studios. It features a 16-32 bit era look and feel as well as a CRT Monitor effect. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita on September 20, 2017, and later, in 2018, ported to iOS on May 17 and Nintendo Switch on November 15, respectively. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a 2018 crossover fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series, succeeding Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (2014). The game follows the series' traditional style of gameplay, in which players control one of the various characters and use attacks to weaken their opponents and knock them out of an arena. Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) is an online subscription service for the Nintendo Switch video game console. The service is Nintendo's third generation online service after Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and Nintendo Network. Following an interim period which began with the launch of the Nintendo Switch where Nintendo offered online multiplayer free of charge and the launch of the Nintendo Switch Online Smartphone App on July 21, 2017, the subscription service officially launched on September 18, 2018.

<i>Bayonetta</i> Video game series

Bayonetta is a series of hack and slash action-adventure games created by Hideki Kamiya, developed by PlatinumGames, and owned by Sega. The franchise was introduced in 2009 with Bayonetta. Two sequels were released, Bayonetta 2 (2014) and Bayonetta 3 (2022), as well as a spinoff, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon (2023). In the games, players control a witch nicknamed Bayonetta as she wields dual pistols, shooters in her high heels, and long, magically transforming hair which becomes a deadly weapon.

Steven Universe: Unleash the Light is a role-playing video game developed by Grumpyface Studios and published by Cartoon Network Games. It is based on, and taking place after, the Steven Universe animated series. The game is the third and final game in the Light trilogy, after Attack the Light and Save the Light. The storyline was written by Rebecca Sugar and features voices by the show's original cast.
